Insta360 X4 Long Term Review

Bought the X4 before a massive month long high altitude trek / climb in the Himalayas in November. Never used it at all because the snow depth on top of the high passes wasn't epic. My S23 Ultra Android was perfect.

I upgraded from the X2 to the X4 and wow, what a big improvement. For me the Insta360 X4 is first 360 camera that I find very useful for content creation. Great long term review, thanks for sharing.

Hi Shawn. I love your tutorials and follow along on most of your content even if I don’t ovn what you are showing. Nice job! 👍 But I have a couple of questions for you. I have been using GoPro from the 7 all up to the 12 and also a GoPro Max to get the 360 mode as a new view on my tours. Riding my motorcycle all over Norway and create some nice touring videos. I did try out the Insta 360 X4 but I had a bit of a struggle rendering 2 to 3 hours of video on the Insta software. Did try it out in Final Cut Pro X also but the rendering time on a 15 min clip was over one hour. What do you suggest on software? Is it the long videos that makes the trouble?

Thanks for the content. I've had the insta 360 one x for many years. These are great cameras. It still looks and works as I t did on day 1.

The Insta360 X4 was my primary video camera while on tour of Southeast Asia. Videos are very good quality, but editing can be a mentally challenging process. You have so many possibilities when refraiming. Makes appreciate the artistry of filmmakers! One thing that wa really useful that you don't mention is Insta360 X4 photos. Used the photo function to get great 360 degree interior photos that could be included in a video. They're a great way to capture scenes that can be posted as short reels or included within a longer video.👍🙂

I bought one when it came out. For me personally I found that I’m not a fan of how ultra wide video looks. Also with the lens protector on, didn’t like how the video looked and without it you have to baby the camera around. And the extra work required with reframing 360 video .. just wasn’t for me. Decided to sell it and got the Osmo action 5 pro.

I like it and hate it at the same time. Finding your videos to edit is hard when you have alot to look through. Some icons don't show a preview. App looks great but my cell phone stuggles and only 15sec shots are good for their extras. Cant add music to a 360 vr video? Media tab and protect tab don't make sense? Can you help with that?

How do you keep it tightly mounted in front of your bike? I find its heavy weight can sometimes pull the whole mount down.

Indeed, that can be an issue. I’m using their motorcycle mount, which comes with a wrench that really allows you to tighten it up. It’s made of metal compared to plastic like others. Works very well, especially on a dirt bike with a lot of bouncing around.

I really just want this camera for scuba diving. I have an X2, but it doesn’t stitch the image properly under water. The X4 Invisible Dive Case fixed the issue.

I’m not sure about that. Most smart phones are compatible for running the app.

I have a X3 and a X4 So far my X4 has only been used once, and it nearly got damaged when i used it (i placed it on a tripod near an excavator, and it nearly got knocked over) I have heard reports that the desktop software is secretly spying on users (and I wouldn’t be surprised if the app is secretly doing something shady as well)
