One thing that I forgot to mention is that the *X4 is much faster than the X3.* Processing of 8K clips is very fast and the whole UI is very responsive. *Insta360 Ace Pro Review* - 8K & 48 MP Powerhouse - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6OceJyFnpqGsKs

Great review, i got an x2 the biggest issue is transferring files from the device to the phone which is very slow. I was wondering if you could test for example a 5 min 8k video to the phone.
@TheHybridShooter9 ай бұрын
Thank you! One X4 is much faster, it can do 30 MB/s over Wi-Fi. One minute of 8K 30p is 1.5GB, so it is easy to calculate the amount of time it would take. The quick reader shown at 10:20 is the best option for transferring files and mobile editing.

I watched this review before any others. Excellent as always. I think your opening statement that the X4 is the first consumer camera offering 8k / 360 is not quite correct (I think there is a company called something lie Qcam got there first about a year ago). The clip which interested me most was the one which compared the resolution of the X3 and X4, which did not make me want to immediately dump my X3. But I will certainly be keeping in touch with end users opinions in the coming days. And your own enthusiasm for its overall qualities is very persuasive!

Thanks for the excellent, to-the-point review! At last I can retire my Yi 360 purchased at the very end of 2017 and have been using it since, given that no new cosumer-level cameras exceeded its pure resolution - at least up to now. And thanks for not trying to wasting our time by trying to be funny or by loooong intro animations / logos. Most tech channels constantly bombard us with "jokes" and the like, wasting out time. Just a quick note: you're constantly referring to traditional cameras as 2D ones. Technically, most 360 cameras like this one aren't 3D either as they do NOT record stereoscopic image. Very few 360 (or for that matter 180 - or even traditional) cameras or dedicated DSLR lenses do record 3D stuff. An example of such a comsumer-level 3D 360 camera is (was) the otherwise quite unremarkable (bad image quality) Vuze.

The X4 still suffers from two major problems that "could" be fixed with a firmware update: 1.) 200Mbp/s HEVC is still WAY too low for 8k. Adding 50Mbp/s more would be a significant improvement! Make a "high" 250+Mbp/s mode. 2.) Noise reduction is WAY too heavy and it's scrubbing the details out of the image and making it look like WAX or PLASTIC. They need to offer a noise reduction "low" option and allow noise, texture and DETAIL back into the image! This would allow us to clean it more carefully in post with WAY better results than in-camera noise processing. Insta360....PLEASE fix these two problems in firmware.
@TheHybridShooter9 ай бұрын
No and no. 200 Mbps in h.265 is roughly the same amount of information as 400 Mbps in h.264. That mean 100 Mbps per 4K "square". That is still what most DSLM cameras shoot nowadays and more than enough for a consumer camera such as this one. Besides that, 1.5 GB per minute is already a lot to manage for non-professional users. "Waxiness" is some specific scenes is not caused by noise reduction. It is caused by the specific method used to capture maximal amount of DR, as explained in the video. It is similar to local tone mapping on iPhones. The X4 is a huge improvement over older 360 cameras in that regard, though.

@@TheHybridShooter - The two things I'm asking for are tied together. Noise taxes and stress compression. I'm asking for less noise reduction with more original noise allowed back into the image with LESS noise reduction artifacts baked in. Increasing the bitrate will allow for less compression artifacts when more noise , texture and detail are allowed back into the image. Also,...these 360 images are severely bent, shaped, warped and MAGNIFIED...and generally stretched, mutilated, mangled, and "abused" much..MUCH more than your typical "flat" 8k camera image would be. A 360 image is the HARDEST thing you could ask of ANY compressed image....and I'm asking for less baked-in noise processing artifacts on top of all of that. Yes, I think that 200Mbps HEVC is too low for a severely warped 8k image capture. I'm not saying this is a bad camera, I'm simply saying that it can do better with firmware changes and less baked-in image processing...or less over-processing. (BTW, H.265 is generally NOT two times more efficient than H.264 is. It "can" be in VERY low bitrates but that advantage falls away fast as you move up into higher bitrates)
@TheHybridShooter9 ай бұрын
@CLIFFLIX As I have already explained, your technical understanding of what is going on is incorrect. Again: the noise reduction is the not the problem, what you are referring to as "artifacts" is caused by HDR stacking and there is a massive improvement in this regard with the X4. That is the price for having the whole sphere properly exposed, as explained in video. There is no decreased advantage of h.265 in higher bitrates, that is nonsense. 200 Mbps in HEVC is already the biggest amount of information captured by any pocket camera. It has to be enough for the time being. Overall, you are asking too much, you will have to wait for further technological advancements and future generations of 360 cameras, it is not a matter of FW update.

It's an X3 B... but at least it doesn't have blue or any colored spots on it. I wonder how he lens flares are with those protective lenses. BTW: this X4 motorcycle bundle coupled with 2 extra batteries and a dual charger = 830 euros!!!! Now check how much those cost for an Action 4...
@TheHybridShooter9 ай бұрын
No, I can't agree with that. As you can see in the video, 8K makes a massive difference, so does the more powerful SoC in the X4. If you are price conscious, maybe don't use the most expensive bundle with accessories as a reference.
@mitchelljermaine9 ай бұрын
So... no larger sensor, no higher MP, no low light flexing, only 8k (Which no one needs), 4k 60p (which should've been in the X3) and higher bitrate (which also should've been in the X3). I really hope there's a Insta360 ONE RS 1-Inch 360 release coming up.
