Instacart vs Shipt | Which pays more?

I shop for shipt as well as instacart as a side hustle, so today I wanted to explain the differences. There are pros and cons to both companies, but you can definitely tell I lean more towards one here. They are both changing gigs though so honestly who knows which one I'll prefer in a year! I also got hired for Instacart first but couldn’t get on the schedule so I did Shipt only. I started in 2017. I did full time for 5 years and now do it part time. Here’s where I correct you … Shipt customers can choose to pick up their order at the store however it’s very rare. Mainly because Meijer and Kroger offer a shop/pick up service through their apps. Also not sure why you think you can’t add items to a prepaid order, you certainly can do that.

I do both. I like IC because you can see the tip before. If you do Shipt we track address for non tippers or bad customer. For Shipt you can be deactivated for being late to often or if your rating drops below a certain level. Also dropping orders affects your AR and you won't be pushed the best orders.

Hi Amanda 🥰!! Batches does determine in different area. Promos does pay better compare to prepaid orders, but there is orders with both. Some tips are not a guarantee the same days some can tip the week or a few days later. You need to treat the customers with respect and always acknowledge them. Instacart is losing shoppers to shipt in some area.

I'm part time with shipt lately its been slow only made $278 week before last week for 7 shops but for last week I got $427 . I generally pull $400 a week but since they keep doing these bonuses and hiring in my small metro it's been hard gettin orders. The hustle is real out here 🤣

I recommend getting both and having both open. Whichever is offering the most you jump on that one same with DoorDash and ubereats

Do you think Uber bought out Postmates on purpose because Postmates was getting better bonuses... I remember Postmates it was like complete 90 rides in a week and you'll get an extra $900 no lie

Instacart in my area doesn't pay much at all, I barely use it anymore, I deliver for a local company (ICdrivers) and I usually make $20-$40 on an order plus tips it's a great side hustle besides being an Amazon Flex driver and a DA for a DSP Amazon delivery which is fun if you like driving around a lot, Amazon actually pays quit a bit for delivery Blocks. Actual Amazon DSP deliveries is $700 a week after taxes .

My tip is do the smaller orders because it could lead to bigger ones. The more you let it sit the more Instacart thinks you don’t really want to work or get the orders. Plus the small orders do add. And also it could be an influx of people who are now on the app. And also it’s back to school season and people are back at work.

I am a 100% ok shopper on instacart and the other food apps, but I messed up on the quiz that shift had for hiring ( and I have a masters degree!)…and shipped rejected me! No shipt for me!!

What did you mess up on the interview and did they tell you that you weren’t accepted or just leave you hanging? I applied 2 weeks ago and they say they have everything they need from me and when a spot opens they will review my information. I’m wondering if I did something wrong also.

You can add items to prepaid orders definitely at Target I have done this.

I do Shipt the same way you do….I keep my instacart app open and will take a good batch and cancel my shipt shop. 😂 I have heard that acceptance rate being low will hurt you. But I’m sorry, if I put myself on the schedule I will not be accepting garbage orders.

aloha! i do both IC, and Shipt :) shipt doesnt give out promos, but they do give out bonus'! for ex, shop 1 DO, get $30 bonus. thats on the side of the order pay, and not including tips :) Shipt also does have Delivery Only. Promos happen inevitably if no one takes the order. promos hit on the 15th minute of the hour before delivery. if you get a promo order, you will not be docked late no matter how late you are. the highest promo i took was $72, tip was $60, and it was a 11 item order of everyday food! In Hawaii, Shipt is much more popular and higher payouts than IC. average pay out per order here looks like $25-$35 per order.

it could be different on different islands, states, etc. but its common and seems only worth it to take a promo order. we can see what we want to claim, and girl i hope that gatorade was worth the pay! lol i wouldve neeeeever given it a chance, unless it was pushing a $60 promo lol.

My area in northern ca pays very very well even without a tip. Easily make 100$ in a couple hours. But yea it all depends on your area.

Hi, just an FYI Shipt does have delivery only orders but they pay less. You have the option to shop and deliver or just delivery only. The customers tip better on Shipt, but you don't always get the tips the same day.

if shipt doesn't pay you for miles can't you just write them off as a business expense and get paid for those miles when you do your taxes??

We in Illinois. You are in the Urbana area. Remember every is further apart. Some of these other ytubers be in major cities where it’s high traffic at. Like Chicago , Philly , Bmoore so you gotta remember that orders will always be smaller in our markets. I’m in the Rockford market it’s slow money but it’s steady so far.

They’ve been phasing out a lot of the in-store InstaCart shoppers in my area. I’m sure theres some areas that still have this but I no longer see Delivery-Only orders in my area.

Sorry but you're wrong. Just because Shipt doesn't have dedicated shoppers, which in my opinion is better, does not mean "you'll never have delivery only orders". Best Buy, Office Max, and others offer delivery only orders through Shipt.

You can get deactivated for your on time ratings being below 90% and slipping below 4.7 on your overall rating.

I got deactivated on Shipt for being late and had to take a course/quiz to be reactivated. I wish they presented offers that give you more wiggle room time. A lot of times, offers that are really far away will be presented only 1/2 hour before the delivery window.

This apps don’t work here in Central Florida. 11 hours only made $104, minus 20 gas and a meal total $80. I would only in absolutely necessity. Only $10 to only $13 per batch.

I tried to signup with Shipt and it wants me to record a video of myself but it won’t work, I get an error. I have done everything it says to do if you get the error and it still doesn’t work. I emailed at the email addy given and they’ve never responded, it’s been 4 days. They have sent me text and an email to finish and do my recording but I can’t. I have tried on my laptop and phone and get the error on both. Any clue what I can do?

I worked 3 hours today and made 12.00. This is a ripoff. One order was a 40min drive. First order had like 40 items and half the store didn't have. Then I had to carry all the heavy shit up three flights of stairs. Took me 3 trips. No tip from that one. The next one was a 40 min drive which is bs. I got a 12.00 tip from it. A person can't make enough to pay their bills. It's less than minimum wage.

Was the same for me. I do see higher paying orders now but they’re usually only double and triple batches. Still rarely anything more than $25 regardless of size or if it’s a triple order.

I can tell you that I started shopping shift in October and the couple weeks before Christmas. It was really good then right after that when the new year hits it was even hard getting orders after that people were tipping good before the holidays right up to Christmas but then not as much afterwards the best way to do shift is wait in the parking lot like Myers, like I do in a high income area they are the ones most likely going to tip better.
