When you have hundreds or thousands of drummers sharing video clips on Instagram, how are you supposed to stand out? Here are Michael Schack’s 6 tips before you make your next post:
1. Start playing immediately
People have an extremely short attention span. If nothing is happening within the first 5 seconds of your video, they’re less likely to watch. Take immediate action!
2. Keep the performance short
Instead of posting a long video that gets cut off after 60 seconds, create something that fits in that minute-long time frame. Give it a start, middle and end (or an intro, first verse, chorus, and finale). Keep building to a climax so viewers are with you until the very end. Your video can also be much shorter than 60 seconds.
3. Be yourself
You’re one drummer in the middle of all these other players, so be yourself. Play what you think might interest your followers. Even if you just have two family members who follow you, they might be proud of what you’re doing and share your videos with their friends. Sometimes that’s how it all starts!
4. Don’t overpromote products
Many of your followers don’t play the same brand as you. Just play. Keep it neutral in your videos and let branded images do the talking. Save the excessive promotion for long-form content on KZbin.
5. Keep your audio in mind
Some people connect good headphones to their smartphones and tablets. If your video doesn’t sound great, they may not keep watching. Even if you’re just using the built-in microphone, try to position your phone a little further from the drum set (in a corner, for example) to avoid overwhelming the mic.
6. Dress nicely
Details matter! It’s nice to see a drummer dressed up for the occasion sometimes. People want to see you shine, not look at your old, torn-up T-shirt. Inspire viewers to have a positive experience. Really think about what you’re wearing: will it offend someone you know, or someone in another country?
Get out there and make some killer Instagram videos. Be proud of what you do!

Edit: currently I’m using a Shure MV88 on my iPhone lol but I’d like to upgrade Are you using the Roland SPD-SX? What other drum machines could give the same effects but not have the $900 price tag? Lol I loved the samples you have on there but I’m also trying to get a home studio put together and between mics, audio interface, xlr cables, soundproofing, etc I can tell this is about to be a much more expensive endeavor that I originally expected lol

I disagree with most of what he is saying , I have videos of me playing on instagram where its not a start and middle and so on and got hits, be yourself and not worry about what you wear cuz you cant please everyone , there is a guy who was playing in a park with a beat up drum set and just in comfortable clothes and got millions of views, likes comments and so on , the reason for this was the content, yes good audio does help but mostly , its your playing that will determine how you hold someones attention.......There is nothing wrong with promoting products if you believe in it and use the right hash tags to get the attention.

KGTv I just recently purchased a Zoom Q2N 4K Video Recorder (not to be confused with just the Zoom Q2n). It was a good purchase, not too expensive and is a distinct step upwards from just a mobile phone recording.

Hola Cristian!, el tipo dice lo siguiente: 1.- Comienza tus videos tocando de inmediato. hacer una intro puede que tenga como repercución que la gente haga scroll y ya no vea lo que querías mostrar. 2.- Que tu performance no dure más de 16 seg, quizá incluso menos. Instagram es rápido y la gente no mira mas de 16 seg un post. 3.- Sé TÚ mismo, comparte lo que TÚ creas que es interesante. No copies a otros. 4.- No Sobre-promuevas productos, instagram es para promoverte a TÍ. No todos usan los mismos parches que tu, y los mismos platos etc. 5.- Cuida la calidad de audio, puedes ir probando donde posicionar desde diferentes ángulos tu teléfono, y luego escúchalo con audífonos para ver como anda, mucha gente ve instagram con audífonos puestos, entonces al ver un video que tiene mala calidad de audio puede ser molesto para algunos usuarios. 6.- Vístete bien. Michael dice que a veces puedes estar ocupando una polera que diga "xxxxx" y ese mensaje en Canada o Usa o donde vivas puede se que es gracioso, pero en europa o otros países puede ser ofensivo, recuerda que instagram es global y puede seguirte gente en cualquier parte del mundo. También preocúpate de tener buena vestimenta porque es tu presentación personal y habla bien de ti cuidar tu aspecto mas que estar "dejado" o ocupar una polera roñosa porque da una impresión de que no eres pro. Eso básicamente. Muy buenos tips creo yo.
