Install an Aftermarket Exhaust System & Sharktail Mufflers on Indian Touring-Freedom Performance

We show you how to install aftermarket exhaust headers/pipes & slip-on shark tail mufflers on an Indian Chieftain, Chief, Springfield, and Roadmaster model 2014 to present. You'll need to re-map your electronic fuel injection after the install. We used a Dynojet Power Commander V to tune the EFI and we have a link to that video for you below. In this video, we used Freedom Performance exhaust headers and mufflers, but the install is very similar for any aftermarket exhaust system. At the end of the video, I give you a sound comparison between the Indian stage one exhaust and the Freedom Performance exhaust system we installed.

Hey Ryan, that's the first Indian video I happened to see of yours and it was exactly what I was thinking about doing to my 2018 Chieftain Limited (minus the sharktail part). Did you get em installed? I did my 2014 Chief Classic 4 years ago. I'm retired so I stretched it out over 2 days. I'm guessing it took 6 hours. If I remember right the instructions were a little ah.....foggy. But you can figure it out. And my fingers hurt for 2 days! Lol! For real! But man, the compliments I get now, I had the V and H Turndowns before and never got compliments like I do now. Ride Safe

The rear cylinder header pipe should terminate on the left side instead of the right to keep the length of the pipes balanced and more even exhaust tone.

Ryan, maybe you guys did this, but before putting on the heat shields you should've cleaned the pipes. I'm sure they had fingerprints on them and will get baked in when the motor is run...

So my question for you Ryan is how would you suggest storing saddlebags whether they are leather or hard if you have multiple sets. I am constantly moving my 2 leather sets and I don’t know how to properly store them if they need a support in them or what. Any info would help a lot hoss

I have some leather ones too. I don't put any supports in them or anything like that. Just on the shelf. Seem to be fine. Hope that helps! Hard bags same. Just I just ste them upstairs on a shelf.

I have a 2019 Chieftain Limited. Bought it Oct 2021. It already has stage 1 Indian pipes and an Indian stage one air filter along with the stage one flash. If I install this do I have to get the power commander? The difference is no cat. If it will run okay, I'm happy without the power commander.

Yes, you should always remap your EFI after changing exhaust.

2 years ago I was trading my Yamaha V-star 950 I so so on the fence about what way to go. Indian or HD. I was so torn because the test ride on that Chieftain dark horse with the Thunderstroke 111 that had 119 lb/f of tourqe I absolutely loved it. Then I went for a test ride on a HD Street Glide police special with the new M8. Absolutely loved that one too. Finally my decision cane down to a slightly used 2014 Street Glide 103 with 2500 miles on it and the only reason I went with HD over Indian is serviceability. Sacramento county has 2 HD dealerships and 1 in neighboring Placer county. There's only 2 Indian dealerships in NorCal with the nearest on 44 miles away in Auburn and the other is 2 1/2 away in San Jose.. My next bike will either be a Fatboy 114 or Indian Vintage Classic.
