Very good information. The long run where you needed to add a piece to the corner. You have the seam in the WRONG place. The seam needs to be at the edge of the cabinet NOT above the door. With the way that you did the seam when the door is installed and your eyes look at the beautiful wood door and move up to the crown you see a seam. With the seam at the edge of the cabinet (or between doors for a double door cabinet) you only see the beautiful crown and NOT a seam. Now you crown is 8 feet long, stand back and determine where the seam would be the less obvious to the homeowner. Now the seam that you are using WILL cause a problem when the humidity changes in that kitchen (and it will with cooking etc.). When the wood of the cabinets expands because of changes in temperature etc the crown being pushed from each end of that run, the seam will take all of the pressure and the top piece of your seam will be forced to move and NOW you have a ridge to that seam. The CORRECT way to do that seam is a square BUTT seam. The butt seam is a shorter cut than your angle cut therefore with a shorter seam there is less for the homeowner to see. With the BUTT seam you can place a block of wood on the back side to draw the 2 pieces together. With your angle cut seam it can be cut to the right or the left. There again you have to stand back and decide which way to cut it so when the homeowner will NOT look into the edge of the seam but look at the top piece of crown. I worked for a cabinet company for 23 years doing service on million dollar plus homes. When you install light valance/rail do the seams the same way. Before you do the RETURN piece of crown do the front piece that way you can mark it with your pencil then install the already cut return piece. PancoastJ@bellsouth.net

" Worked for a cabinet company for 23 years doing service on million dollar plus homes." Yet here you are, commenting on how to to butt seams. Multimillion dollar houses don't have ANY seams in their crown trim. (Actually, most houses do not) Why? Because they pay for custom lengths (longer than 16' if required) I actually suspect that the dude in the video deliberately added a seam, so he could show his viewers a method of install if they screw up ( because they will) You, on the other hand, are just flappin' your lips...... carry on.

If you want to perfect your miters, use a sharp thin knife to mark your cut lines and CA glue to join them before install. Just match your pieces up in place beforehand so that they going to give you a perfect fit. It works beautifully. Nice job on the process.

Learned an important piece of information from this video that no other instructional videos addressed. The spring angle on a 52/38 degree crown molding is dependent on which end you chose to use as top and bottom. There is a chart on the internet that lists crown molding and bevel angles for all wall angles. The problem is it does not specify what is the spring angle as defined in this video. Consequentially, you could end up cutting the wrong angles if your installation is the reverse of what is considered top and bottom of the crown molding.

Hey man let me just start by saying I think you have one of the most informative construction channels on KZbin and this is a great video. I just want to throw around a few tips that may help in the future. #1-On end cabinets where the face frames overhang, I usually use a filler strip with a reveal that compliments whatever crown is being used. In the past I would notch the face frame but I didn't like the way that it impacted the profile from a straight on view so I stopped doing that. #2- If you have color match paint, then you can use regular high quality pre-primed crown of any length in order to avoid any scarf joints. #3-I like using a 3/8 crown stapler for miters. I never liked the way cabinet crown was kind of floating in no man's land so I started using my M12 stapler to staple through the top flat part of the crown that would normally be sitting up tight to the ceiling. I also send a few staples in the backs of the miters. They will never be seen and it helps while glue dries as well as longevity. #4- Not that an 18g isn't perfectly fine, but I've been using a 21g nailer for my cabinet crown for a while now and it has good hold and leaves a smaller hole. Keep up the good work sir.
@TheExcellentLaborer
@TheExcellentLaborer Жыл бұрын
I have never used a 21 gauge finish nailer. With typical Home construction I have not ran into the need for it. Yes I get the color matching paint from the manufacturer. I will fill in the 8th inch overhang and paint them after a patch all the nail holes as well. Thanks for the comment!

I cannot for the life of me get the corners to align. test piece after test piece. they do not align. A good example of what mine doesn't do, is around 20:28, he's aligning to make a cut at one end. His pre-cut piece aligns perfectly. That.. right there.. how in the holy mother of all that is holy does he do that?

Thanks for sharing all the basic information on crown work. Having to learn this years ago it always was a great go back to if needed. As years of cabinetry work, crown work was my favorite. I've been able to hold the basic 45° crown up to 6" in the miter saw as if it was on the wall or cabinets. Also I have always back mitered in side corners only and cope them in case a corner was not a true 90°. Tricky if you've never done it this way. All in all, the finished product is what matters and everything secure. Taller crown going to a ceiling, blocking is a great idea to prevent spaces to appear years down the road from any type of movement. Glueing is always important as well. Wonderful video Josh. 👏🏻🔨

Hi my friend I like your videos in the Lord and pressed on my heart that you were ready to understand what’s about to happen. God bless you and thank you. Hi my friend in Christ Jesus, Do you understand the three angels message in the book of revelation yet dear friend? It’s being preached right now all over the world, it is God‘s final warning to his children to come back to him and stand firm in biblical truth, instead of religion, and traditions of men, as Jesus himself says, pastors, teach Doctorines and Commandments of men making void the law of God, making their worship vain. Matthew 15:9 The Bible confirms the mark of the beast is about to be announced in America , this is where it starts according to scripture before spreading worldwide according to Bible prophecy, in revelations 13. and the mark of the beast it’s not a physical mark and of course no one can enter heaven without the seal of God , so we should know what the mark/seal of God is and the mark/seal of Satan is. Both of them are not physical marks, but a simple choice that we make to follow God, and keep his Commandments, or proceed to keep the commandments of men/religion, these leaders are and some will be deceived and think they are following God but they are not !! And error will be so close to truth that we cannot know the difference unless we know the Bible our at least sincerely accept the three angels message from Gods word at the end of time which is now !! , if you’re not familiar with the three angels message in the book of Revelations , than this video sermon of biblical truth about end time bibke prophecy is literally the difference between life and death. But God will not force you or anyone to follow him, It’s got to be your choice, and this choice will decide everyone on earths fate. There is no middle ground , Jesus himself says, “if you’re not with me, you are against me” , All religions are going to unite and make the mark of the beast movement sound like a Godly movement not a bad movement like a lot of people think. It’s going to be a false revival, like the whole world is coming back to God, but do not be deceived. They are not! if you’re reading this, it’s not by accident. God has chosen you to be one of the few faithful to help prepare the way for the soon return of Gods dear son. He’s chosen you to spread his end time message, but he will not force you. It’s gotta be your choice out of love for him, And love for humanity. Make sure to watch the other videos on the channel as well. This is life or death and these are salvation issues! May the father and his son through their Holy Spirit lead you into all truth and if you have any questions, feel free to ask me , and also my Facebook page is a social media ministry. I love you guys please help me to save our brothers and sisters so we have more family in heaven because we’re all family. And time is literally almost up. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Lords blessings to you and yours ❤️🛐✝️🙌🙏🏻 God Is love. 1 John 4:16 So Gods will be done ! kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5avk42HgNJkm5Isi=aM1-zKBZf2nmpRpS
