How did they handle the winter climate?
@vermontvermont92928 ай бұрын
@@DandyWaves here in VT we don't run tires like this in winter. All seasons are not for real snow like we get here. We have to swap over every winter to winter tires. Many of us have a separate set of wheels with winter tires since it's much easier that way. Speaking of Tire warehouse and winter tires. The best winter tires I ever had I got from tire warehouse in Berlin VT. They were the cheapest tire, but for whatever reason they performed better than friends running brand new Cooper weather masters, or Hankooks. This was way back in 2003 though, and I remember they only had those tires there one season. Wish I could remember the name of the tire! Over 20 years ago now lol.
@sstressfl8 ай бұрын
I never got a chance to use them in winter. As DandyWaves mentioned, I slap on my second set of wheels with studded snow tires 😎 but that’s Vermont with steep snow covered mountain roads. But when I lived in Michigan and Chicago IL area…. I never used snow tires. A good all season did what needed to be done even on snowy days. But living here in Vermont is not the usual. The first time I slid down a steep road, sideways, is when I swapped out to studded snows. Game changer :) but if I lived even in Albany NY I’d drive all season tires all year around. They don’t have the snow volume. They don’t have the ice covered dirt roads. I hope that helps.

That's a nice looking bead breaker you made. I have one purchased from jc Whitney many years ago that works well but I've only ever used it for motorcycle tires. When I saw you trying to dismount your low profile ats tires I was not surprised you had trouble. I would never have even attempted it so I give you much credit for trying. Even though I prefer to do most work myself , there are certain tasks that can only be done properly with expensive equipment.

I replaced the original wheel and tire (215/60R16) with Lexani 245/40R18 on a new set of 18"Konigs (18X8) for my 20 year old Lexus. Lexani was not my first choice, but was intended only as a temporary set. I've been driving on them for two years, and see no reason to change them out for another brand. They really surprised me. Wet driving requires a bit more caution, but the width of the contrasting tire sizes is more to blame. (The difference is pretty mild)

But low profile car tires are a whole nother thing... Unlike bike tires (which you can get dead on with a quality manual balancer) you can't ever fully balance car tires, much less performance ones...with a static at home harbor freight balancer, so you did the right thing there!

@@sstressfl I like many other grew up on a dirt road. Actually a class 4 dirt road in Riverton VT. I used to have to walk home from the bottom after school 1.5 miles up hill. The berlin police used to sit at the bottom of the hill some times, and would give us a ride up. That was always fun, and a relief, especially during winter. Thankfully now as an adult I live on a paved road. I rarely drive on dirt now. I'd love to take my car off the road for winter, and get a beater with a heater. Honestly instead of buying wheels I should have bought a winter car lol. I've detailed cars for 23 years so I keep my car pretty clean and protected. Every fall I use a gallon of fluid film black on the chassis. I even pop out the body plugs, and spray all up inside there. Then I put grease around the body plug holes, put the plug back in, cover with grease, and spray over the plug again. I literally cover everything. Even the back sides of the brake dust shields. Radiator support, you name it. Inside the engine bay, etc. Then every spring I degrease and clean up the engine bay. Then use a nice ceramic coating on the painted areas of the engine bay. I spend all summer long keeping lots of wax on the vehicle, the door jambs, etc. I even remove all the carpet inside the trunk, and wipe down those areas with a thin layer of fresh oil. Then put the carpet back on. During winter I keep 2 containers of damp rid , one in the trunk, one in the cabin. I keel several of those silica packets in the spare tire area, and under the carpets. I'll use weather tech floor mats to keep water from getting into the carpets and rusting out the car from the inside out. Make sure the drainage holes in the doors are free of debris too. After every wash I'll dry with tec582 which is an amazing ceramic spray protectant. I even remove the inner fender liners, pressure wash in there, let it dry, then spray fluid film , while that's happening I clean the inner fender liners both front and back, and use a nice plastic protectant on them before reinstalling them. Every chance I get during winter I'll go through the car wash with under carriage spray to blast the salt off. Touchless obviously. It's kinda like a second job keeping a car clean and rust free in VT. It's important to also keep your brakes cleaned and well lubricated. In the spring when doing my initial first detail I'll take the brakes all apart, and clean them all up. I also painted my calipers to help stop rust from forming on them.
@vermontvermont92928 ай бұрын
@@sstressfl oh yeah, and I also remove the rocker covers clean those all up, the cover them in fresh new axle grease. Then after cleaning the covers inside and out I'll reinstall. Also on my car if I remover the door sill cover I can dump used oil mixed with bar and chain oil right down inside the rockers. I'll do that until I see it dripping from the pinch welds. People think I'm crazy spending so much time on a vehicle. I just like my car, and refuse to let vermont win!

They have these priced at $64 per tire on simple tire in the 17" I need for my Volvo, with a $50 dollar off promotion on orders over $250, bringing the total for 4 before tax to $206. But i was ok with it cuz it saved me the time. I did a lot of my own mods. Bought some street slicks and went racing once at Milton drags in FL, then moved to Atlanta area… then Vermont… met my wife-to-be, got married, and she did not like the women hollering at me (only car I’ve ever owned that caused that), and I traded it when we moved to CO. Here’s a pic… let me know if you can see it facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=271334226260065&set=a.271334192926735&type=3 here’s a pic of the rear suspension… I was trying to help the 10 bolt. Moser axles. Braced. 3.73 gears. It needed at least a stronger 12 bolt from moser. After 4 runs at the track with slicks the poor rear end growled all the way home. When it cooled down it didn’t make any noise and I was able to drive it daily :) facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=271334886259999&set=a.271334192926735&type=3
