I bought a steam deck to support Linux gaming. Its sitting here unused because I'm a desktop gamer. I have used it while waiting for service on my car. I turned it on to update this week. It has not convinced me to dump windows yet but has worked perfectly. I do see it happening in the near future.

I use ProtonUp-QT since not long ago but i have to say im glad i have it on my steam now, its really easy to use and helps so much to have more games running better on the console. I bought a game bundle in Humble Bundle (Resident Evil) and since RE5 had compatibility problems and would need a specific Proton version i tried ProtonUp-QT to get the version i need... so far is working amazingly well. This is a tool everyone should have in steam deck to be honnest... it helps alot. Thanks for sharing all the info with us. =)

Splendid video. I didn't realise Proton Up had all those extra games compatibility info functionality you demonstrated in your KZbin video. I recently used Proton Up to install a GE version of proton compatibility layer required by Rebel Galaxy Outlaw game to run on the Steam Deck, plus used another great tool, Protontricks, to install an extra windows library under proton specifically needed by the game, viz. mfc42.dll.

Would you be able to test out and see how well MMOs work on the Steam Deck? More specifically, Guild Wars 2, WoW, and Final Fantasy 14? I know some people have been playing them on the steam deck but I'd like to know how well they work on it. This is the main reason I would get a steam deck personally.

Was getting quite a lot of crashes on Quantum Break, none of the pre-installed versions including experimental version fixed the problem. Installed Proton GE and hasn't crashed so far 👍

Am I best off installing windows 11 or is there another option like running a vm or emulator in steam os? I'd like to stick with steam os instead of dual booting or using Windows to go

I've looked into it before WayDroid is the best way to do it in Linux, but the issue is that it can't be installed as a FlatPack so you can't really install it on the Deck.

@@buddybleeyes the issue is that it is possible to do it by installing WayDroid as you would on Arch but as soon as Valve updates the deck it will overwrite and delete what you did. So it really isn't worth it.

I installed the ProtonGE to play Astral Ascent on the Steam Deck and after an update it's not working anymore, frustrating 😔 Valve should work harder to make games playable on their handheld.

Hey! Great video! I'm super late to the party here and maybe things have changed, but my Protonup-qt isn't showing the GE-proton versions to download and install. It's not showing any of the other ones either such as the versions for Boxtron or Luxtorpeda. i'm connected to the internet so i'm sure it should be refreshing and showing me available versions. Mannnnn....plzzzz someone help me here...I added the heroic launcher i downloaded a game Godfall and the free lil fame called Dko both will load up and when the EasyAnti cheat finish loading up I get a Launch Error "FAILED TO LOAD THE ANTI CHEAT MODULE". I looked up some videos that said download protonup-qt so I did I installed latest proton and easy anti cheat which is ( proton-GE-proton7-46) I'm yet it still gives me launch error I'm new to this could someone 🙏 PLEASE Give me the YODA knowledge so I can game on my epic games. I just searched it in desktop mode 7-24 seems to make pretty much every game I've tried just work that didn't before. Persona 5, fall guys, fable 3 one of the batman games I tried that didn't work digimon works but you have to change the full screen option same with arkum asylum a couple I tried on the newer versions but had performance issues so I just stuck with 7-24

Thanks to you I already installed it on my laptop. protonupqt is quite handy. ah also enabling tearfree true for xrender buy having it in a config file to automatically have vsync in games otherwise the tearing ooof. its funny how the first problem i had with my game was not proton but not having direct x inatalled in steam. For some reason steam forgets to install the package with vs redist and directx when you are installing witcher 1 director's cut. It was so bad that no game from heroic launcher worked either because well that guy is dependent on steam proton. LoL all my games worked after i started installing witcher 3. bruh think about fixing all your games not launching buy installing another game. stupid steam can't have these packages in a handy place lmao.

Yo btw.. You were right about the changed touchpads.. I had stickers on my old one which I had to send in and the new console has a tiny bit smaller pads. The stickers were the perfect size and now they overlap a tiny bit on each size. I wonder which fan have.. and ssd^^
