Hi, thank you for this. So helpful! I just downloaded R Gui and R Studio. When I install packages I get this warning about Rtools being required to build R packages and to download and install. But then it continues to install the package. Do I need RTools?

You only need RTools on Windows if you need to install a package using the source code rather than the pre-compiled binaries available on CRAN. So, generally, no you don't need it.
