Excellent. Love the detail. Question, how do you remove the GS windscreeen? Do the two black trim pieces just pry off? Thanks.

There are two T25 screws on the inside of your windscreen (behind your computer dash) an L-key T25 will get in there just fine. That’s all you’ll have to remove to get to everything.

Hey Mark. Thank you for the awesome informative video. Are both the mounting brackets included in the Touratech pack to screw in directly onto the BMW cross bar? Or did you get anything extra?

You’ll get everything shown here from touratech with the purchase of the locking mount. The only part not included is the plastic Garmin base and the Garmin charging cable.

It does come in the box but for me i have two motorcycles so I had to buy an extra one for the 2nd bike.

I have the same mount for my Zumo XT on my 1250GSA, I am pretty happy with it. When I get my KTM 690 (it is on order) I will put the same mount on as well. Can you post a photo of the mount on your 701? I have the Touatech toolbox mounted to the rear rack and had the locks matched so the same key operates both locks.

Yep, same on the locks. I had Touratech key my two Zumo XT locks to the same key as my Jesse Luggage boxes (they're all the same lock codes) to make life easier. Wow you paid $700 for the mount? Love the install, but I just bought a $50 mount and take the Zumo with my phone when I get off my bike. Main reason is they will still try to steal it - locked or not. Since they are steeling the bike display screens. Again great video!

This mount I thought was $200 from Touratech + $30 or so for the BMW wiring cable. obviously the GPS itself costs money. I think I paid $399 on sale last Christmas.

I want to ask a question.The delay turning off zumo xt screen ,is from the unit or is because the motorcycle power wires still giving power after switching off ?

Great question. The BMW GS' Canbus system will still deliver power for up to 30 seconds after you power off the bike. It's unlike most bikes where when you turn the key off, so does the bike's electronics. The Zumo XT will, when the power stops from the bike, enter shut down mode allowing the user to cancel shut down if they want to keep using the device. On my Husky, it's instant, on the GS, it takes 30 seconds.

@@AdamChandler86 So if i take power from the battery and add a relay with a switching power from the bike i will solve the "problem" .I wonter tough if there is such instant switching power on the gs or all have that delay function. Thanks for the reply

that would work. I have a power module (PDM60) and it has a trigger wire so it knows when the bike turns on and off.

I found the bracket mounting very crappy and more difficult to install than it should be. One of the two bolts broke in to half when I was tightened it and the other one chew its way into the metal making them both unsuable. Also I am not so sure that it will handle the big off road bumbs and stay on its place, I really hope it will but I am not sure, I hope it will not face down on the first big bumb :\

It is a hard install the first time. I've moved it between bikes twice and it is easier the 2nd or 3rd time but keeping all bolts in and from falling out or into crevices is hard. As for the bolts breaking, very unfortunate since Touratech doesn't keep spares on hand so you're left having to source replacements yourself. If I need more hardware, they always tell me to just buy a new kit. But I will say that these are locking nuts so if you over tightened them, that's par for the course. These are 10-15NM bolts, not 30+ at 30, you're probably going to break things. Sorry for your issues.

@@AdamChandler86 Overall, it could be way more user friendly in terms of installation! I am going on a 8k km trip in a few weeks and I am definitely taking the stock ram mount with me, as well cause I am not feeling confident that the touratech will make it.

I don't understand touratech engineers. The 2 screws securing the handle should be facing the other way. the thief only needs one wrench to unscrew the screws and take the handle with the navi

This is not a defense of Touratech but it is a motorcycle. Literally everything can be stolen off it. If I leave a bike parked overnight somewhere, they can steal everything. The exhaust is 2 screws, the crash bars are 4, the panniers are 6 bolts, top box is 4. Anyone with a Torx kit can disassemble my bike in 4 hours. So this will deter a casual opportunity thief but not anyone with tools.
