about brightness issue: one thing i always did when i was gaming on bootcamp windows: before booting windows in mac settings i set brighness to max and deactivated automatic brightness, then in windows the brightness buttons worked best, maybe this knowledge will be useful in first volumebuttonpatches^^

Two questions: 1. Is there a way to install Ubuntu (or another Distro) from uefi boot - completely wiping MacOS? So Ubuntu is your only OS? 2. Is there a way to install Ubuntu with the btrfs filesystem with this method?

YEs Most GUI apps are supported on ARM Linux. App experience is much better on ARM than X86.

It’s mostly fine from what I’ve heard, but Vulkan support is still in the works, it has a lower battery life (but you could try TLP and reducing brightness) and it doesn’t currently support usb-c monitors

Or just get a Framework for $1000 less, it’s deliberately designed to be 100% driver-compatible with Ubuntu and even officially supports it. Then again, Asahi does seem to be catching up; they’re currently working on Vulkan support, which can actually IMPROVE the Apple cpu’s capabilities by letting you use Proton on steam (which is impossible with macs’ Metal). That being said, it still doesn’t support Apple’s USB-C monitors so I wouldn’t recommend it for Mac Minis or multiple-display setups.

On the Imac M1 the sound doesn’t work, the microphone doesn’t work. The magic mouse doesn’t work properly. It is not possible to access network shares. My conclusion: it sucks, it is not ready yet.

Resize failed. This is usually caused by pre-existing APFS filesystem corruption. Carefully read the diskutil logs above for more information about the cause. This can usually be solved by doing a First Aid repair from Disk Utility in Recovery Mode. Iam getting the above message when i try to reinstall

Nope it's not destroyed your Mac. Shutdown your Mac or force turn off and leave for 3 minutes. Then keep holding the power button until you see loading start up options then release the power button. It will boot your Mac into Apple Boot menu. Choose Macintosh HD to boot into macOS.

Установил на мак эйр м1. Завелась нормально, правда после добавления яркости бегунком мак завис намертво, перезагрузил. После небольшой внешней настройки и установки русского языка интерфейс начал тормозить, папка home. пропала с рабочего стола после фризов. Мелкие артефакты на разных участках рабочего стола. И самое главное мак стал нагреваться, хотя я просто открыл настройки. Удалил эту шнягу.

There are limitations and if a company is making hardware which is compatible with linux mostly out of the box, it's simply promoting the open source linux in any way. I am aware of the idea that you cannot use everything open source... There are many different reasons why I hate Apple more that Windows. It's the true evil when it comes to the digital world.
