Hmm. If you mounted the bracket so it points out, so that the metal plate you cut is beyond the edge of the scope, you might not even need to cut off the section. However, it would stick out the side of the telescope which you might not want.

Thanks. I though about different configurations for this, but the focus shaft that is connected to the knob is parallel to the optical axis of the tube. SCT focusers are designed differently than reflectors and refractors, where the focuser shaft is at a 90° angle to the optical axis.

Have you tried the auto focus out yet?

Yes I did. Obviously been a while since I did this video. Eventually, even with this being a good solution for EAF focus, I found a much better solution was to install a GSO linear bearing focuser on back of scope. The mirror knob is used to adjust focus so it's at the center of the range on the linear bearing focuser, then the mirror is locked, and no longer used for focusing. From that point, the EAF connected to the linear bearing focuser just moves the focuser in and out. It always finds focus like 99.5% of the time, and the focus curves on the ASI AIR Plus app are always a smooth V curve, with a clearly defined minimum star size at middle of the V curve.

It works correctly, but mirror flop still causes problems getting best focus at times.
