You know I'd like to see how much of a difference the diff makes. I'm wondering though if the tune might give me the extra torque I'm looking for. I've been seeing a few guys making upward of 230kw after a tune. Mightn't need the diff after all. It's also a major pain changing the diff from what I can tell

Mate this is the most Australian mod ever.. Thanks for the vid i needed to see how to get the plenum off (theres another hidden bolt at the back!!).. Joining the "chain gang" :-) Oh its too late now but theres a springy nob on the back of the rightbank breather connector on the rocker cover. You can just reach round and pull on the nob to release the breather connector tube. So you can lift the tube and rotate to get the vacuum tube off the top of the plenum..

Nice to actually see an installation. Having seen this one knows to get the proper length screws Another function of the spacer is to functionally add length to the intake runners which I believe is where your added torque is coming from. I am however not seeing how adding a larger throttle body will gain any airflow by itself without changing the intake piping and the opening in the intake to match.
@mgunner69
@mgunner69 2 жыл бұрын
Good point. The intake port was however the narrowest point of the intake. It seemed like a good idea to open it a little bit. I agree though, it’s probably negligible

Loads of info in the vid mate, thinking about coming back to a VF SV6 as a daily. I won't buy a VF ss with these prices of $35-40k+ and some newer models being more than what they were new... I've got other cars like an '06 6.0L stato and a supercharged v6 '97 VS for the weekend, but i've been looking around to see what's come of the community since I went out and sold my old vf for an xr6t 2 years ago. I looked into the guy you mentioned in the states and he makes these spacers too but sells them for more than mace engineering, however he also makes ported intake manifolds for the Camaro LFX which would bolt straight on for $400usd. They claim 21 increase in air flow however...
@mgunner69
@mgunner69 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen those potted intake manifolds. I just can’t imagine them making that much more power. I think the biggest power gain will be made from tuning or the installation of a turbos. Im about to see how the Mace remote tuning goes. I’ve heard good things.

Wouldn't an OTR air intake be even better and a lot less hassle to install but around $500. Like the Orssom OTR AI.

@@mgunner69 I live in Adelaide. Graham West is where I went. Brett there is a legend. All up, making 238kw atw while getting around 10’s litre per 100km. I did get the trans tuned but I’m not sure what’s involved with that. Huge mid torque gains. Getting the OTR, map & tune was by far the biggest improvement made on the car. Highly recommend

@@mgunner69 I paid for the license to re map the ECU. If you just get a base tune done, you should make around 210kw with the mods you have. Still an improvement. Definitely get the re map done to get the full benefit. All up I paid around $900 for the map & tune, but definitely worth it.

@@matthewjames3476 that’s very interesting. I did hear that you had to pay extra to unlock some of the more advanced features. I’m thinking that you might be right, it’s probably worth the extra. I’d like to get the kind of numbers you’ve made. Those extra kw’s would make all the difference.

This was a long video, long, long video. But I stuck with it, yes, a lot of rambling, a lot of thriller like edge of the seat, "Dude! That's why you couldn't do that!" and "Mate, those bolts have to come out first". But my favourite was, before you started, "I hope he has longer bolts to compensate for the depth gain...." then later, "I f&%king told you!". I'm a former SOLID Ford guy, that accidentally fell into a mint condition VZ wagon and I was looking to do an LFX conversion..... 2 things I learned from this vid; 1. LFX plenums are ugly AF, I'll find the difference elsewhere! lol (You did the best you could with what you have, #respect) and A. The placebo effect is real. I know you don't have 400k subscribers and can't afford to chuck your car on a dyno twice a week, but? At least buy an OBD reader with live logging and show the difference. I've spent an epic shitload on a 2.25 twin 'engine back' exhaust that, after 8 months of 'on and off' covid lockdown zombie apocalypse , I only have a $1000 catback fart pipe (sorry, twin fart pipe) without the ceramic cats or the headers.... But I can also show you on my live logging OBD reader, that I've already gained 600ml/100km mixed and 900ml/100km highway, and the O2 sensors read completely differently at low end torque. Wow, see this?... Now I'm rambling! And this is the only vid I've watched of yours, I guess it's contagious, I'm off to watch some more

Have you found that your fuel consumption was better with the original cats?
@captainsensible6939
@captainsensible6939 2 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, still only the catback (The rest is now in the shed, just need time). But I've put on a 12mm insulator and there is a difference, and it's tangible. O2 sensor on the driver side is shot, and the cat on that side has made itself a delete cat lol, so I can't give you anything accurate in the way of your question. Probably wouldn't have gone this way if I hadn't watched your vid, I was going to fork out $1300 on a CPR6 that was going to give the same results. At running temp, which used to be 93-95c highway and 98 - 103 city is now 90-92, doesn't matter where. On long travelled roads with diagnostics, one long, regularly driven straight used to be 7.8L/100km is now 6.4 at 80km/hr. And one close to home was 8.7L/100km is now 7.2 at 50km/hr. Once I drop the transmisson to change the O2 sensor (yep, that's a thing) and I put the rest of the exhaust on, I'll come back and share notes :)

Hey there Michael thanks for the vid did see that on the mace website agers ago and was intrigued about it myself, was actually scanning for LFX edelbrock superchargers and your vid poped up so yeah had to give it a suss, wow you think that the kit would have come with longer bolts ?? ... and know it was your daily drive so time permitting but i would have done a bit of match porting on it to help the air flow, tech screws fix everything right lol, if you would like a bit more poke would recommed an idrive sharpens throttle response heaps or you can make it a slug but who wants that :) i usually leave mine on 3 but turn it up to 7-9 and yeah makes a big difference to the flyby wire response diffenent animal... just a thought for you cheap and easy.... well keep up the good work appreciated your rambelings better than just music and no insite you do you bruv....

Hey Paul. They did provide the bolts that attach the plenum to the head but those shorter self tappers aren’t included. It was easy enough to find a solution. I did also port the spacer to be smoother into the manifold. It had some sharp edges so I filed and sanded those away.

Did an Xu1 setup but 1 3/4 inch triple Su's. Nice to see a young bloke like yourself doing this. Top job. 🙂👍👍👍. Leave the heat shield off as you'll get heat soak. Also maybe try plastic upholstery different types of spatulas. Different shapes and a some lube? Maybe? Top job young man! Nice to see this! Cheers🙂👍👍👍❤
