Thank you for the mention! I'm subscribed and looking forward to your progress! The port mismatch will be ok. Look at how Ford did the marine 429/460 engines. They ran Super Cobra Jet intake manifolds on regular port heads. Severe port mismatch but it worked fine!

Looks just like the engine in my 65 f100. 1968 ribbed truck block, bored .060 over, flat top pistons, C8AE heads, Comp Cams 280H cam and valvetrain, Sidewinder intake, 600 Holley, Hedman headers, Pertronix ignition, Chrome Power By Ford valvecovers. Runs very strong. Tons of torque. Great video, man! Keep it up!

Sidewinder intakes we’re offset on the carb pad in order to center the carbs under the hood scoop of Cobras due to the offset orientation of the motor placement in these Cobra chassis!

Awesome project and great video. I’m doing a similar build on my .030 over 390. I have the crate-R heads and I’m going to put a tunnel wedge intake on it. Sure, I’ll lose a little hp down low, but these engines have so much torque anyways. Don’t listen to the keyboard experts 😅 you’ll fry the tires anytime you stomp on it!

You are right about that! An fe can loose a little torque down low any day of the week. Even with the tallest intake they make, it’s still gonna be street worthy. Sounds like an awesome build! Thanks!😎🤘

Congratulations on finding a rare Jen. Man it sure is beautiful. I’ve been working on a 1961 390 fe project for a thunderbird. I was wondering where I can find an intake like this or what I can do? I want a aluminum manifold with an oil filler tube to keep the original valve covers with similar ports for pcv and accessories. Any advice?

Just keep your eyes peeled on Facebook marketplace. That’s really all the advice I got. They don’t make many new aluminum intakes anymore. You might try joining the ford FE enthusiasts group on Facebook and asking around. Good luck!

Sidewinder intake? I'm jealous! It really looks good on your engine. Can you lift the old S cast iron intake manifold like you were lifting the sidewinder intake in the video? What did you use for a carb spacer? Your videos are really enjoyable.

No way Hosea😂 It took all I had to lift the cast iron one off the engine. I sat it down on the ground and it hasn't moved since. And yeah the sidewinder looks really cool on the engine. Like I said in the video I found that sidewinder on marketplace for, you just never know what might show up on there. Thanks!

The carb spacer is an open plenum cheapo 1” spacer from summit racing😎

I prefer the composite cork/rubber rocker cover gaskets.

My old teacher that showed me a lot years and years ago showed me the rtv method because before that one time on a sbc I tried to use the rubber ones that fel pro sends and on one end it pushed out and the other end in and this was after it was in the car I played hell w that not knowing what I did wrong well the first engine i brought him we were going over. The gaskets and he picked those out and immediately threw them in the trash I said wtf he says never use them I said OK well I like oil Inside not outside lol he said yee of little faith and we proceeded to do.the rtv and I've never ever had a leak on a China wall ever not once

SO is this worth any HP over stock 390FE truck manifold? i understand i will lose 50plus lbs off front of truck, BUT its a truck so 50 on 4000lb truck isnt that much unless it comes with some power/tq too?

@@WilliamMunny-d8s Yes, it’s way better than a regular truck manifold. It’s a medium riser intake for starters which means the floor of the port is taller than your truck intake. The plenum on the sidewinder is the biggest of the factory ford intakes. And the runners themselves are visibly bigger than a truck intake. You might sacrifice a little low end torque but on certain combinations you should be able to gain about 30-40 horsepower. If your cam is paired accordingly. Hope this helps!

Hey bud so how did that sidewinder do on the dyno versus your stock intake... ?? Also have u had any leaks not using the China wall gaskets?

I was unable to dyno the engine again after the intake swap. But from what I read anything up 50+ horse power increase. And then I did end up using the cork china wall gaskets because I ran out of silicone.

Yeah, I actually went so far as to actually weigh mine. If I recall it weighed like 76 lbs. The old cast iron one that is.

Wow,yah i can see where the drag is,the 352 needs a certain flow,too much got the 10 sec.bog,not enough,falls at 4500 and keeps hackn and fartn,somethin i learned in judge school,a long time ago

That intake is sure to lose you low end power, looking at your dyno graph. Oh well.

I’m well aware I’m gonna lose some low end power. But even if I loose 100 lb ft down low, which I won’t if I’ve learned anything from Jay Brown and his dyno testing of this manifold. I will still have well over 300 lb ft of torque right around 3,000 and I should gain a noticeable amount of power top end as well as shave 50lbs of cast iron of the front of the car. The long stroke of 390 is going to make great low end torque no matter the intake or carb you put on it. Plus a Sidewinder intake just sounds super cool😎

Bullshit. The 390 is a good engine. I would have put the C8OE heads on and the Sidewinder and 850 Holley should make close to 410 hp. The Torino is a beautiful car.
