Hey Justin, there’s actually a lighter adapter in the glove box. It’s up in the top right side, behind the glovebox. So, if you have a USB adapter, you can plug it in there for a seamless install instead of running it to the center console. Nice video, thanks!

Yep, some others mention that as well, thanks! I was looking for a USB port in there and obviously didn't look close enough, as I didn't see the 12v either. I'll get back in there and reroute it.

I did the same thing with the headliner when wiring my dashcam in my WRX. Made it so much easier, and I was surprised to see that I couldn't hide the wire inside the headliner of my friends' Chevy or my dad's Nissan.

Very helpful video Justin, although I would not route it the way you did for A-Pillar. As you might know, there's an Airbag behind it. The safest way would be to remove the trim and route it behind the airbag.

Haha, no problem, it's super easy to route the cable. I'll find the 12v in glove box and maybe do a video short for routing USB cable there.

Just FYI your cable routing across the A-pillar @8:45 goes directly across the airbag, not sure what kind of consequence this has but I didn't feel comfortable doing this on mine. The side curtain airbag is powered from the rear but terminates about 3/4 of the way down the front pillar. The A Pillar is very easily taken off, just gently pull from the top. I zip tied the cable to the existing wire and brought it down the same way into the glovebox outlet. Otherwise thanks for the great content, I have the same spec car in my garage.

Do you have to remove the weatherstripping first or can you just pull the A-Pillar cover off? Are there any clips that need to be undone before the cover fully comes off? I technically already installed my dash cam in a way similar to this video but want to avoid airbag interference as well.

@@AyyGin Just the trim piece. It is tethered in place so just pull gently and you should be able to work behind it without removing completely. Weatherstripping stays in place.

@Alexander Lepage Just redid the cable routing. (For others who want to do the same thing) I first disconnected the car battery. The cover pops right off with little force just like you said but will remain suspended by two plastic hangers. I ended up unhooking one of those hangers to get better access to the area I'm working on. Ziptied my dash cam cable to the thick existing factory wiring above the airbag and then I popped everything back on. Pretty straightforward overall. Thank you!

Oh I didn't see this video until AFTER watching your short (routing USB cable to the glovebox 12v). I hope you will eventually hardwire the camera; I find the 12v connectors to be ridiculously unreliable (ie the adapters just fall out or have poor physical contact, leading to potentially breaking your electronics).

I had looked at those a while back and they do look awesome. They are significantly more expensive than the 70mai dash cams I have. Unless I missed an equivalent Black Vue model at the same price point?

@@TheBTRGarage...understood. Price is the great separater. I'm still looking for one but I want a 2nd camera on the back window. I don't ride share and don't need a cabin cam. Shocks/activity from the side will be tough to spot (I need/want tesla's sentry mode w/o the Tesla)

Hey Justin, I'm guessing this dashcam saves videos by overwriting on previous ones. If so, is there a way you can prevent certain files from being overwritten until you get a chance to download them on your PC? Can you transfer them into a separate folder, say the emergency folder?

Yea, it will save video until the storage is nearly full then roll it over. Yes you can save any video file to your phone using the phone app, as long as it has not fallen off and been overwritten.

Yes to both questions. I have 2 cameras in my app currently (for different cars). As long as you have 2+ USB ports to power them, should be good.

You don't need to, but it makes it much easier to remove/move if you ever need to. Plus you don't have the double sided tape mess on the windshield.

It only runs when the car is on. You can add additional wiring to make it run when the car is off, but not shown in this video.
