Great instructional vid. I cut a narrow opening in my bathroom wall to build a custom closet. Boxed it out with drywall, made shelves and used this vid to create a custom door. Just the right parts of info. Concise and professional! Thank you!

Thanks Wayne, I've been struggling with this project for a while. I cannot use a pre-hung on my retro farm house. Your tips on laying it all out on a bench first, and clear footage of how to shim and set hinges have helped tremendously!

Every renovation I do where I frame a wall with a door I also frame it in a way that allows me to frame the door using 2x6s. I love the look of natural finished pine with some knots in it. The doors are all solid pine and I select the 2x6s with the location of the hinges in mind so that the hinges won't land where a knot is.

Hey awlsome video! Quick few questions: 1.What type of wood did you use to make the door jam? Every piece of wood I looked at was either slightly bent, twisted or curved... even the higher grade stuff... I am always worried that if it's not the right type of wood it may or may already be twisted, thus causing the door not to close? 2. In your opinion is it cheaper or more expensive to custom build a jamb for 4-3/4" Width (2x4 + 2 layers 5/8" drywall) the only pre-made jambs that could work for me are 6-1/2" wide which will have to be cut to width and are pretty pricy... Thank you :)

just one question to, hopefully someone can answer but if my rough opening is 33" for a 30" door, how thick can i make the door frame? what thickness did he use here for his door frame because it looks more like a 1x6 rather than a 2x4 like he wrote down
@willeliagujetti8410
@willeliagujetti8410 3 жыл бұрын
Whats the thickness of those pieces of wood for the jamb? Is it 1” - 1/4”... meaning 3/4” because it doesn’t look that thick with your finger next to it... I’ll just look it up online but was wondering what thickness of 2x4’s to get... also I’m just doing a sliding barn door so it’s more to just close up the rough opening, any tips is appreciated.

Confused at 1:50. Pull jamb 1/8th inch over where? The side or the top of the door? If the top, that's all you need between the door and the top jamb? Shouldn't the next step being pencil marking on the jamb where the hinges go, while the hinges are still on the door? Also seems like he's doing alot of chiselling even though using a wood router. Lastly, why is the jamb marked "2x4 side"? There's nothing earlier in the video showing a preference for which side to use.

Opening of the jam needs to be 1/4" larger than the door to allow 1/8" reveal on both sides of the door to allow clearance
