I am doing a 2x6 reno and I also bought a door like that from HD. I knew they don't carry 2x6 doors in stock so I thought to look ahead if they had the jamb extension. And it said they had one - took me like 20 minutes to find it. And it wasn't quite right. So after like 10 more minutes, I found another one buried behind a bunch of debris! So I lucked out that day.

The rookie is not as much a rookie anymore. Glad you listened to us. If you can subset the screws on the other door then you can just putty over them and its done.
@selador114 жыл бұрын
In that gap where you used the sawzall to cut off the plastic piece that was keeping the door in place... Cut a piece of wood to fit in there snugly. It has to reach from below the door knob, to above the deadbolt. Now remove the screws from the striker plates on bot. One at a time. And replace them with 3 inch long screws. Door will now be super difficult to kick in.

The door pan should have weather seal tape on the sides connecting it to the rough door opening so if water runs down the inside door opening it won’t run under or behind the pan. It should also have one bead of caulk down the top back of the pan not all over the whole pan otherwise it defeats the purpose and water can’t run out the front. I’m sure it will be fine but the way it was done the pan serves no purpose.

excellent install on that door!! the only thing I would of done different is the stairs should have three sections of support as you will find the sun, water and just stepping on it will eventually wear it out. It will work for probably a decade or more as is but with 3 you will get a very very long time out of it. Also I would of used composite decking on steps so long as you had 3 supports (as it flexes a little more but is more resistant to water and snow and and everything else.) It's a small area and it would of been cheap enough and outlast any other method.

Nice work going on. All that bark peeling on the posts looked tough. I wish I had an easier answer. Sad to hear about the rude people, but I am glad you are receiving some critique, as this is your first time building a home without formal training as a Carpenter. I learned that Carpentry, especially building homes, is a challenge. Even the Bible speaks about the Carpenter...."Great are the Carpenters, but greater is the one who created them."...something like that. Jesus was a Carpenter.

To the family friend in USA -- from -- A friend in French Guyana Please allow me to make some comments and give some advise ! WATER: Need to install double filter on main water line Install water recirculating pump with some limestone reducing additive device -- Water must be kept in movement to be kept alive...! Put gutter around the house roof to recuperate rain or snow water not forgetting the filter before entering the tank Rain water automatic bypass in case the tank is full to avoid excess water around the tank --- If too little water in the tank it will pop as a coke !!! ISOLATION CHEAP Yes adding some insecticide, inn the sawdust or better the wood-shaving they are very good isolating agent for making a cover over the water tank ! SCREW'S Far better then cruciform head screws, is the "TORX" head !!! Hope to be helpful ...? Keep the family healthy and full of love ! -- Warmest regards -- Marcel

How is the feather river fiberglass door working these days? I am ordering one, nearly the same as you have in this video, I read Home Depot reviews and pics of showing some pretty bad things, not sure if this was just neglect, poor installs, or what, just curious on your honest review and what you think of them. Thanks in advanced!

Flashing Tape....it keeps any water that may get in around the door from ruining the framingand flooring lumber. Its a water barrier and helps seal the house wrap to the door rough opening.

HOWdy Johnsons, Exterior DOOR installation This door is PERFECT with a THUMB-KNOB Dead-Bolt --- because you have no Glass Window ... Your previous DOOR has WINDOWS that could easily be broken & a BURGLAR could reach in & UNLOCK both the Door-Knob & Dead-Bolt to gain access in your ABSENCE ... you really should replace the INNER Dead-Bolt THUMB-KNOB with a second KEYED LOCK ( double Lock Set ) that requires a KEY on both the INNER & Outer portion of the DEAD-BOLT Lock on any DOOR with a low WINDOW COOP ...

all you have to do is pull those screws out, drlll in a bit to offset the head and then putty over them. Though with your cold weather and those being exposed, it might be worth doing wood plugs with glue over them, not just putty. People who use the word ruin, have no idea what that word really means....
