What a lot of people do not realize is that fuel controllers and tuning in general on a N/A engine does not inherently increase power. It is meant to add enough fuel to compensate for the increased airflow from aftermarket parts. There will be a slight bit more power but nothing crazy. If you want the best result, have it fine tuned using a dyno as the maps you download from dynojet are base maps and can be dialed in more

Lol if you ever look at the airbox on a z650 its in a very bad spot and there is a small hole for the air to go into. The z650 stock airbox is very restrictive and inadequately producing the the needs for the z650 engines intake. You can simply fix this issue by cutting a series of holes in the air box and giving the intake of the z650 some more breathing area. This process will eliminate that "Snappy throttle" that you are experiencing.

@Luiz you feel a snappy throttle going through school zones In PA the limit when flashing is 15. The ninja 650 is the same way, you'd be in 2nd gear and the throttle feels like a switch where its basically either closed or pulling the hell out of you. Other than that and stop and go traffic you don't notice the snappyness because when going from a stop up to 45 or whatever traffic speed is the bike is smooth once you get used to it, but just cruising at very low speeds is horrible

I installed a piggy back ECU much like the Power Commander and the bike is a LOT smoother at low speeds. The throttle was jerky a bit stock but with an exhaust it was downright irritating. I bought the Power Commander before I saw this video and I was so bummed out because I didn't need more power & I got the Power Commander to make the bike a lot smoother which according to the video the PC doesn't do that. Thankfully just 2 seconds after the ECU was installed I found the bike so much smoother. Night and day difference. There is a power gain but you will be hard pressed to tell the difference in power but the smoothness is very much there. Another thing changed drastically is the engine braking has reduced almost 60%. Earlier you let go of the throttle and the bike would act like you dropped anchor as the engine breaking for a 650cc was quite brutal. The heavy engine braking did mean I could extend the life of my brake pads but I am very glad the engine braking has reduced. An ECU flash will work just as well but I was worried that if any problem occurs I would be hard pressed to tell if the ECU flash is causing the issue. With a Power Commander you can easily disable it to get back to the stock ECU.

The snatchy low speed / low throttle opening response on my 400 is my only real complaint. I also tried a 2019 Ninja 650 and it was similar but felt worse because of the extra torque. My previous bikes, including a fuel-injected FZ6R (completely stock) and a carbureted SV650S (full exhaust, K&N, and jet kit) were both MUCH smoother in cracking the throttle open, using maintenance throttle, holding a stead speed, etc. I've been considering one of the two or three companies that will reflash the ECU. Trouble is it seems like a lot of trouble.

"naked bikes are easy to work on" Like the Z650, my Z900 requires basically all the plastics to be removed to remotely close to the airbox. On my VFR800, remove rear seat, remove two bolts holding down the fuel tank, and there is the airbox.

Hey my friend I think you should change the throttle tube on that bike. As for the power commander five I suggest that you take a second look at the airflow box to see if it needs to be opened up more because when you install it was because of the change of the muffler system. I think you’ll find that this will help one of the things I did with my son was installed the power map commander five as well as a autotune on the bike what a difference a day makes. If you haven't gotten a proper ECU flash you should and you'd be able to tell the difference too. Don't get me wrong PC5 maps are a step up from stock but if stock is a 2 on a scale of 1-10, PC5s are a 5 at best, custom tunes being 8-10 depending on how good the tuner is. I've tuned vehicles myself too as part of my automotive engineering course and even an identical engine with identical intakes and exhaust requires different fuelling to be perfect. generic PC5 maps just simply can't do this. @@AntaresSQ01 Joe and I are not talking about PC5 maps. The 2wdw map is a total ECU flash. It fixes all of the tuning issues with the stock bike and sets up the fueling for your new exhaust. I think we are all in agreement here that the Power Controller is a waste of cash because it is only a fuel mixture bandaid and does not address all of the nuances that can be fixed by a proper ECU remapping

What octane gas should I use after I install the power commander and exhaust? The manual calls for regular gas for the stock bike
@Baleur
@Baleur 3 жыл бұрын
I seeee!!! So if you use a Power Commander, there's no point to flashing the ECU? You're basically keeping a "backup" of the default settings, so when you remove the Power Commander you basically rollback to "default"? But i was watching a big Ninja 650 tune video, where they first used Power Commander, but then flashed the ECU instead, and gained like 20 extra horsepower at the highest rev range, that they did NOT gain via Power Commander.. So whats the deal here?

Huge bummer that it didn't do anything to fix the choppy on/off throttle transitions. I've got a 2019 CB300R that I love, but the 1st gear on/off throttle is annoying AF - way choppier than the throttle on my Honda 919 which I used to think was choppy, until the CB300R! ...Oh well, guess I just gotta live with it.

@brendonfernandes2877

Yes. I installed a piggy back ECU much like the Power Commander and the bike is a LOT smoother at low speeds. The throttle was jerky a bit stock but with an exhaust it was downright irritating. I bought the Power Commander before I saw this video and I was so bummed out because I didn't need more power I got the Power Commander to make the bike a lot smoother which according to the video the PC doesn't do that. The heavy engine breaking did mean I could extend the life of my brake pads but I am very glad the engine braking has reduced. An ECU flash will work just as well but I was worried that if any problem occurs I would be hard pressed to tell if the ECU flash is causing the issue. With a Power Commander you can easily disable it to get back to the stock ECU.

Throttle jerk on these 650 engines suck. Z650, Ninja 650, Ninja 650R, ER-6n. Mechanical throttle cables, springs etc. Some folks claim they added afew "washers" to get the play out of the throttle slack at the bottom cable adjuster, nearest the clutch.

Why have you guys ignored the booster plug? There are reviews all over KZbin where guys have done videos of the results of installing the booster plug on Kawasakis triumphs and probably others I'm not familiar with. The booster plug appears to take care of exactly what you wanted. It takes care of that acceleration deceleration problem that you're describing on that Kawasaki 650 and it does it on the triumphs as well and it cost an amazing $159. Guys can put them on in roughly an hour and that's mostly because of just having to take things like the gas tank off and if you've got a Versys, certain pieces of fairing also. Why not give it a try on your channel?

@johnporf9546

Well in basically every bike you're gonna need at least a new exhaust to get rid of the stock one as they tend to be very restricted from factory due to regulations. After that it's good to tune the bike because the new exhaust affects the air fuel ratio.
