Ok,I know I'm 5 years late but I'm ready to replace my kitchen faucet. And I always try to learn to do this stuff myself rather than paying someone hundreds of dollars just because I'm scared. Worst I can do is break something and have to call someone, but you've given me some confidence. Thanks

Phil, thanks for posting this. It really helped me, as I have a very similar Moen kitchen faucet that I just installed with the help of your video. Saved me quite a bit of money to do it myself, not to mention buying it at a local store versus the ridiculous markup (3x) that our plumber quoted us ( plus labor costs). - Dan

great video......i currently have a leak under the sink where the quick connection goes, but its not coming from the junction but in between the base and the sink any help would be deeply appreciated. it leaks with both cold and hot water on, should i think about replacing the cartridges? or is this another issue?

Question, aren't you supposed to use plumber's putty between the sink and gasket as an added layer of leak protection? Not sure if it's a requirement but.. A family member's faucet just rusted out due to this even though the gasket was there, it would still leak a little and ended up rusting out the mounting hardware..
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 7 жыл бұрын
Plumbers putty is usually used around the flange of the drain basket. Basically where ever there is a lot of water sitting.

Just out of curiosity...why didn't you use teflon tape on the water line connections up at the sink as you did down at the water pipes down at the valves?
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 4 жыл бұрын
The teflon tape is over kill. It's the rubber washer/seals that really keep it from leaking. If the logistic are complicated, then it's not worth the effort.

I enjoyed your video. The term hand tight.....whose hand? That was a joke.Thanks for a good video, I learned a lot. I am changing all my bathroom and kitchen faucets this week. One thing I have learned on mt bathroom faucets is, connect the supplies hoses to the faucet, then drop the faucet into the installation holes. Can this also be done with the kitchen sink? Thank you

Where would the location of the main water valve be? I'm hoping to install a new sink this weekend and unsure where it would be
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 6 жыл бұрын
That's a hard question to answer without looking at your house. I would start in the basement or garage. look and see where the water is coming in to the house and start on that interior wall.

I installed a new faucet using your video, Thanks. One quick question, What causes the force when you go and turn the faucet on? Makes like a silent knocking noise. My new one works great but when you go and turn it on after sitting not used it makes a pressure sound. Not a big deal but wondering what causes it? is that normal?
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like u have air trapped in the lines. Turn the main valve off and open the faucets (cold water side) in your house. Then flush the toilets. (Basically drain the house lines). While the faucets are still in open position, go turn your main valve back on until all the air has been run out of the lines. Then turn the faucets off. See if that fixes it.

I have an older faucet similar to the one you are installing. The cold water faucet moves up and down. I can take my hand and pull it up about a 1/4 of an inch. The nut holding the faucet on is tight. Do you know why this maybe happening? It shouldn't be moving. The faucet is not leaking.
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 6 жыл бұрын
I have not run in to this issue, but hopefully someone will see your comment and have a solution. If I were to diagnose it, I would start by inspecting all the fittings, nuts and etc under the sink where it is attached. Then I would turn the water off in the house; drain the house; and starting investigating the cartridge......just make sure you have a new cartridge or at least time to go buy one if this is the probably. There's a pin that holds the cartridge in. Maybe there's some play around that pin. Not sure, just telling you whant I would do. If the faucet isn't leaking, then I wouldn't fix it. Has it always done this?
@jordanhardwick3323

What if I've done all of this and it's dripping out the faucet slowly once I've shut off the handles. It's all new parts. If I turn the water off and it stops dripping when I shut off the hot, wouldn't that mean it's the handle? Why would a new faucet with new parts/rubber washers be dripping? Could it be the old connector hoses? To me it shouldn't e the hoses fault it would be the handle....
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a bad cartridge. It shouldn't be though......I mean...it's all new. mystery to me.

@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 8 жыл бұрын
If I were you, I'd turn the water off and take the whole thing apart and start over. Make sure you have some thread paste and teflon tape in order to reseal the threads.
@grettagrids

Phil Crockett so basically turn the water off.. take the entire faucet OFF and turn it around 180?
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 8 жыл бұрын
Without seeing it, that sounds like the plan. Here's a tip for you too: I don't know how old your valves are under the sink, or if you even have any... but i would suggest only turning the water off at the main, instead of turning old valves that are under the sink. I have found over the years, that old valves leak once they're turned. This should save you from buying new valves too. hope this helps.
@grettagrids
@grettagrids 8 жыл бұрын
Phil Crockett thanks but the valves are not even a yr old yet :) so they are all up to date.. the house had no shut off valves so they were added after a couple pipes broke.

Not sure how long this has been like this. I had a plumber change both hot and cold cartridges. I felt the handle and it seemed lose.afterward. I lifted up on it and was surprised it lifted up. I could take handle off and check to see if the brass ring is tight or even there. It may have always been loose. I can’t check under the sink because I am handy capped. If I have to call the plumber back and it’s not anything he did while changing the cartridge, l will probably have to pay. I might be better off just changing the faucet or leaving it alone, because I don’t see any leak around the faucet.
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 6 жыл бұрын
I would probably just leave it alone since there are no leaks. The old saying “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it”. ..... is usually good advice.

I don't know if you replaced faucet because it was leaking, but if that's the case it was not necessary all you would have had to do was change the plastic rings.
