@carole… You seem to be making some assumptions. While there are carcinogens in the rubber, they are not necessarily being released in rain water. I am just learning about this roof, so I don’t know definitively about this particular situation but am aware of a similar study. The North Coast Regional Water Board for the state of California and the City of Ukiah did one a few years ago to investigate whether crumb rubber could be used in stormwater filtration features. I think it was Humbolt State University that conducted the study and basically found that the recycled tire material did not adversely affect the filtration of the soil medium with crumb rubber in it.

Nice product. Will be interesting to see how it plays out over time. Showing how to install a roof jack, then commenting that you could leave the nails there without mentioning they need to be tapped down tight to the shingle they are holding could use a comment. Then removing a roof jack, and beating down on the shingle over top of the nails, that are still proud of the surface of the shingle below is inviting trouble. North Carolina state motto. "To be rather than to seem". I've seen some of your other videos. You guys get some nice work, and your videos are slick. I like the planning of the high points on joists before applying the deck. @charlesm.8924 Жыл бұрын
I fear you will see rain water forced under the roof tiles along the valley flashing. As I see it, rain will rush down the steep pitched section of roof where it will push past the valley flashing center ridge and under the opposing roof tiles (in part because of the speed of the water and because the roof tiles run perpendicular to one another). While it looks like you did a fantastic job with underlayment, once that amount of water finds its way between the roof tiles and underlayment, it will eventually find a way into your attic. I am very happy to be corrected on this, though.

The vents are above the insulation layer - the air that passes through them doesn't come from inside the house. As the roof heats up, the air underneath the roofing also heats, and rises out of the top vent, drawing cooler air into the bottom vents (which are located at or under the eaves). As far as I know, even in winter, the air will still warm slightly below the roofing, causing the same process to happen, albeit more slowly.
@ibealion1 Жыл бұрын
You have to air seal and insulate between the attic and living space. In those conditions, the attic is its own separate environment.
