With help from Arctic Acres, I install a water tank in the geodesic growing dome greenhouse to help moderate the greenhouse temperature to deal with our extreme weather in Canada.

Mr. James, I am constantly amazed by your ability to handle just about anything. I know you put in so much work in your other cabin and that it was hard to leave. But the knowledge that you’ve gained doing that is really serving you well as you build your new homestead. It gives me great joy to watch you build your new home. We are all living vicariously through you and for that I thank you.

I've looked all my life for a man who loved homesteading, living self reliant, with a gentle demeanor. Its been so awesome to see that KZbin has revealed that they exist. You have really amazed me with what you do. Thankful for your sharing this!

Hello Shawn and Cali from Australia, yes, loyal watcher, I wanted to say I was absolutely saddened by the upheaval of you starting over, I have been watching since just a month in to your first KZbin adventure when it all started at the original site, I loved that place and dreamed of visiting, (don't panic, not likely to happen), but the new site is up and looking like it will be amazing! I will continue to watch and enjoy your adventure! Give Cali a hug, take care with many heartfelt thoughts, until next time!👋

Cali says she wants steps up to a small platform for that indoor pool you built for her. Mini-deck to launch from for indoor retrieval training. Awesome you assembled this and the lean-to first for storage etc, it will make the main cabin build so much smoother.

I've got to agree. As soon as I saw the pool, I thought of one use in summer and it wasn't irrigation. After a hard day's work, what's wrong with a quick dip?

Interesting fact: The Mall of America in Minnesota is 70 degrees year round with skylights, lighting and body heat. Moisture levels are maintained from the potted plant's throughout. I love that you built a greenhouse. Mother nature keeps the balance. Thanks Shawn. Looking forward to the progress. Awesome homestead.

You might strongly consider a water or hydraulic ram to fill your pond. Set it up at the stream, run a waterline to the pond, make an appropriate overflow devise (or install a second or return line) and it will run 24/7 for free. There are a lot of videos on how to make them for cheap with common pipe fittings. Plus they are a really cool bit of physics. I think Wranglerstar has the best how to videos on these. Happy Homesteading!

Regarding the sand point idea I might suggest you ensure the filter part of the sand point is perhaps 4 feet below the water table. This will ensure some head pressure at the point when suction gets going. Great idea with the pond I might add.

I think with the lay of your land a hand pump is the way to go. Bush radical had a video that helped me tremendously when I needed information. But I know how important it is for you to get your garden planted so it can produce in the future. And a hand pump would definitely help you a lot. Also very cost effective. Everything looks fantastic and wish you all the success in the world. Thanks for sharing as always, stay safe.

I haven't been to this particular part of Canada, I have however spent a good amount of time in North Slope Alaska all the way up to the Kavik River area traveling by dog sled and on foot hunting and fishing. It takes a while to build up the mental toughness to endure the insects when they are out. Now after 25 years as general contractor/carpenter/hunter/fisherman I can tell you that I'm envious of his way of life. Not having the responsibility of employees is almost encouragement enough to do this for myself and my family.

I love the addition of the goldfish. At some point you could move up to native fish (such as trout) that can be another source of protein, and their waste can be filtered through the soil to give added nutrients to your plants while refreshing the water. Total symbiotic micro-climate.

Shawn- I have driven a "sand point" in very similar conditions and it worked amazingly well. It was down about 14 feet and I was able to draw water constantly. I'd fill a holding tank in the cabin with an AC shallow well pump. This was 30 + years ago and solar was not where it is at. You could readily do the same with a low flow dc solar pump. Love to share my experience if you want to drop a line to me. I really enjoy both channels.

LOVE THE GREENHOUSE & POND & WELL PLANS. 1. SEEMS TO ME You could dig a trench say a foot below the frost line. The put maybe a foot worth of rigid foam insulation between the dirt under the dome & a foot or so up the side of the dome foundation--and then have the 55* soil year round temp help raise the dome temp to 55* to start with. 2. SEEMS TO ME that would be extra insurance against a long period dark & severe cold. 3. Also, wouldn't it make sense to have a small wood stove in there--just in case? 4. Eager to see the raised beds. Love your videos, personality, family. God's best to you & yours.

Very nice job on the dome and infrastructure work. Just for fun information (from a Mech Engr), you're call but stay at least 4 ft away (or the vertical distance to the frost line in your area) horizontally from any dome exterior wall to the center of your driven point or shallow well or you may risk freeze-up. Solar pumps work pretty well with a vertical lift of < 25 ft. Keep up the great work that you do and inspire each of us.Stay healthy and safe out there.

I have a few questions for you. Are you going use drip irrigation for your raised beds? Drip irrigation is small tubing with holes plants be water from bottom. Natural Sunlight is best, sheet metal intensify light just like a magnifying glass. Possible sunburn leaves If your grow using seeds, seedlings need a breeze strengthen stems. No breeze weak stems, wont grow or produce fruit. Been watching garden videos years, looking for new ideas each year. Some people use heat lamps also burn plant. If I grow indoors use a regular light bulb less wattage, less intensified light. Also have found going vertical saves space. Tomatoe cages not built strength with heavy fruit. Great videos😊
