Indoor Pond, Building Log Raised Beds in a Greenhouse, Crying Bear Cubs, Fishing, Canoeing

Ben from Arctic Acres and I install a pond in the geodesic dome greenhouse and then I build the first raised planter with cedar logs. On a hot day, my friend Nate from Algonquin Outfitters and I take a day off to canoe a couple of backcountry lakes to fish and view wildlife and check out an interesting old log cabin in the woods. We hear crying along the shoreline of a marshy area, and discover bear cubs calling for their mother.

I am curious why didnt you sink the water tub down some ... like to the top edge of the straight wall to take advantage of a little green temperature control from the ground

natural pest control get some chickens and a rooster ... then the chickens eat the bugs and keep them away from the plants ... they also fertilize the soil and loosen it a tad as well ... loads of feathers for arrows and of course eggs to go with home made smoked only bacon ;) low n slow for 72 to 96 hours ... . lol Trolling us with the Canoe fishing trip are you lol

Always great to watch what you are doing. Yesterday I watched most of the Dick Proenneke videos again, for the like 15th time. I have read the copies of his journals that are published. Love watching him. Reading about him. Then I watched your videos of the visit that you made to Dicks cabin and lake. You are a modern day Dick Proenneke! And so blessed to be living that dream, like he did. Plus you have a wonderful wife and daughters to share the journey with you! I live in the Truckee meadows now. Along the Sierra Nevada's. On the Nevada side. I love the Sierra's. But I miss my time growing up outdoors in Northern Ontario. Fishing, hunting, camping. Canoeing. Portages that I thought would never end, or I would never get through! With the old heavy aluminum canoes! Even though I am out West now, in the States, Northern Ontario wilderness will always have my heart! Such beautiful country. From muddy mesquito infested beach landings, to granite rock outcroppings, deep water, and places to pull up the canoe and fish or swim!

Hi Shawn and family, The white water tank that you filled up is what I buried beside my stream to have water all winter in my cabin. I got tired of my water freezing so I randomly drilled holes on the sides so high up on the tank and dug a hole and put the tank in it and placed gravel all around it to filter the ground water and put a pressure foot in the tank and buried my water line to my cabin and used a pump to pump it into the house. I don’t know your plans for water during winter but from this woman’s point of view your wife would be thrilled with indoor running water. Maybe how I did mine will help you or someone else . I learn so very much from you and I’m thrilled every time I see new content. Thanks so very much!

Here on the UP, we had a mild late winter with almost no snow so fewer mosquitoes but very hungry. The nearby drainage area support a black fly hatch but fewer this year, Thank Goodness. A very beautiful bloom of forget-me-nots, only one bloodroot bloom I found, and this year I will obtain trillium that carry a bloom to go with the jack-in-the-pulpit that is everywhere. This year I turn 75 and the yard is terraced and evened so I can enjoy the lawn my son mows for me. Your efforts must also be enjoyable to yourself building these permanent structures as well as your many viewers. Thanks!

Miranda Brooks it is common to be done because otherwise dogs will jump up and get food on their own without permission or just in general misbehave when food is being prepared. Dogs must always remain in a calm submissive state unless an emergency calls for something else. It is the behavior of the owner that will determine the behavior of the dog

@iispjhanna. Well said, yes, it's how I move from ??? to !!! seeing it makes sense all of the time. It's as if much of it goes effortlessly, as if by itself, just like the filming, commenting, reporting flows smooth. We don't see a lot of what it takes to think construction through, and the right order of steps in the process. Which I believe is true also for the making of these videos in a frequency that I find amazing. Imagine, I mean, now, there's Ben, directing the Greenhouse build and assisting with it. But usually, true to self-reliance, Shawn is present with Cali, and he needs to do all these things by himself, even throwing Cali's toy. Or are little people helping him, secretly? A pixie savvy with camera and power tool? Throwing Cali's toy? 😊🧚‍♀️
