Ever the gentleman, apologizing for the audio quality because of the wind. I would watch and listen no matter what the quality is. And 99.9% of the video everything is wonderful. You don’t have to apologize for Mother Nature but I understand the reason. I love both of your channels and always stop what I am doing and get to yours. At first I was almost angry hearing of the move, I loved the previous videos from the very beginning, the cabin, then the outdoor kitchen was amazing, the videos of making the oven, then the sauna/ bath house, to top it off the amazing garden that produced so well. Having watched for so long, it was almost like home to me as well ( or my escape at least) every week. However...I am really starting to see the potential here now, and hope for many great videos to come of "Shawn hacking it out of the Wild to the live the dream" if you will, peeling logs day after day, building course after course on a new cabin., then a new bath house, new outdoor kitchen, new garden. The start of something new and better, good luck to you Shawn, and please keep up with the videos as best you can. PS: having watched for a long time here, your skills not only as a woodworker but with your camera have improved so well, hard to tell the difference between you and say a national geographic program. Thank you again for your time and effort you put in for the rest of us just to watch you and dream.

Toughness , resilience and fortitude are your traits and I commend you sir for keeping these traits alive in our lazy world of today. Thank you.

Really looking forward to the new build, Shawn. Would it be possible, in one of the future (soon!) videos to show us a 'graph' of the new homestead site? You've shown an outline with logs, but what goes where? What are the dimensions? Will you have an outdoor kitchen and outhouse again? Will you have an indoor bath? Where is the cabin situated in relation to the workshop? I love being able to visualize as you do the work. Knowing where the placement is makes the anticipation even more fun. 😍

If I was mister Shawn James I'd dig up those evergreen saplings in the cabin area and move them to an area where they can grow and replace some of the trees he has harvested. When the ground thaws out enough to be able to transplant them correctly. Hope he builds a bigger cabin at least twice as big as the last. That would be very cool. This spot is awesome up on the hill looking over the valley and creek. Great video as always.

Shawn. Have no idea when you receive comments but maybe its not to late to save you some time. There are Soil Probes T-style Handle some that will let you take a core sample, and the first one I was thinking of, (but can't find the exact type) is a say 3/8" dia shaft with a 7/16" Dia tip on it. When you push it into the ground, your only pushing the 7/16" x 1" through the ground and it makes a clearance hole for the 3/8" shaft to go through. It"s really amazing how fast you can check to ground out for rocks, boulders, bedrock, ect. almost as easy as a toe touch.

We planted a vegetable garden this year, and it really is very satisfying to see my babies grow. My husband dug out our basement 30 years ago. Can relate to all the rock. He had to use a power rock drill to crack the rick, shovel into wheel barrow and dump to build up our driveway area. Such back breaking work. Best of luck with the new cabin. Look forward to seeing it progress.

Mr. James, this was a fantastic video! I learnt so much from your exposition on air movement, water, fire sites, topography, trees, foundations and observations of your environment around you. Very clearly and well explained. Well done, sir! I am starting to sense an excitement on this new home and location dispelling the lingering sadness on the loss of the old home for both you and I (and many other viewers, I am sure). I appreciate your videos very much, both the visuals on the Self Reliance channel and the work performed. Sometimes I challenge myself with trying to guess what you are making until enough is constructed to give an indication. The explanations on the Shawn James channel just enhance and deepen my understanding. I learn a lot from you and it is very appreciated. Living in an apartment in a city was never part of my life's plan but, as I learnt, life takes twists and tangents that one never expected and other people make decisions that impact your life for which you have no control over. The past year with the pandemic shutdown has kept me confined; no rural trips, no visits to rural relatives, no weekend escapes to the mountains or camping. Watching your videos has helped remind me that life exists outside of the concrete walls. I am absorbing all the education I can from you until I can get out and put it into use again.

Wise thinking Shawn. It’s amazing how quickly water can rise and overtake large swathes of land. I’m east coast of Australia, after the drought, then the horrendous fires on three sides, and just weeks ago a once in 100 year flood that flooded me out of my home for days, it always pays to be cautious. I love nature but Mother Nature sure can teach some valuable lessons the hard way.
