Great video thankyou. I have a very thick hardwood gatepost and a gate that has diagonal brace bars (not a horizontal bar like the one in the video). Will this kit still work? Thanks

Hi DirtyHarry, You can probably mount your arm to the diagonal brace bar. If the arm is too high or low on the gate, it may cause some twisting through the hinges so hopefully you can stay close to the middle. Hi Richmond. Great video! How strong is the gate arm in the close position? It is something someone can easily open by just pushing it or would it take a considerable amount of force/pressure?

Hi @themetafury, In the close position, the arm is mechanically locked. There is some minor mechanical movement in the arm (approx. 3 degrees) but other than this the only way to open the gate is to break the arm or mountings by intentionally forcing it. The amount of force required depends on the length of your gate. Naturally, forcing a 4 metre gate will be easier than a 2 metre gate but it would still need to be an intentional act and require a lot of force. Fitting a gate lock will help with this.

We have just installed one and it hits the wall with a bit of force when opened and when closed the gate swings a bit away from the post at the other end in closed position. I mean it does not stay fixed. Could be the wind makes it swing a bit? Any suggestions on how to make the gate stop a couple of inches away from the wall or is it Ok for it to hit the wall?

Do the gates open only with the remote or is it possible to install a button for visitors to use to gain access?

Hi Volvo89, It's a generic motor design, so you're right, they will look the same. The difference is in the internals so it all depends on what standard Topens ask for with their systems. Without getting too technical, the internal components will likely differ. Some use a nylon drive nut for the sake of cost, Richmond specify a brass drive nut. This provides better strength and wears a lot better than nylon. We work directly with the manufacturer so that we can make changes where needed.
