Loose the torsion spring a couple of 1/4 turns to let the door going down a little faster, which can prevent from cable slack.

Difficult to find how to release and reconnect garage door release. Thanks for demoing the decoupling and coupling of emergency release for wall mounted garage door opener.

Great video - thanks for taking the time. I’ve been planning to install one of these too. I watched the Chamberlain video on the tension sensor and it seems that you can “tune” its sensitivity by shimming the sensor to be closer or farther from the cable. In your case increasing the distance might prevent the nuisance activations. Just something to try if you want to keep the sensor. It sounds like its main use is to prevent a thrown cable, something I’ve never experienced.

I'm guessing if you removed the piece of 3/4" plywood you put behind the cable tension sensor, that would fix your issue. That extra gap would hold the sensor further open and likely won't "trigger" when you close the door, but will still "trigger" if the door actually hits something. Just a thought...

Electric lock is needed because the opener does lock itself but not the door so that the door would be lifted up by a strong guy.
@scottstauffer28515 жыл бұрын
The cable tension sensor is there so cables dont come off the drum. The cable goes slack due to door not starting down fast enough. They sell pusher springs to help with this. They mount on the tracks where the top of the door is in the fully open position. Thanks for the video.

Do you know where to buy one of those or they are called?

The safety sensor receiver is green and has a small lens. The safety sensor sender is amber and has the flat surface (no lens). This is from chamberlains website and can be confirmed by blocking the light path between the sensors and the green light will go off indicating that it is not receiving the IR light from the amber sender. See chamberlain website support.chamberlaingroup.com/s/article/GDO-Sun-light-interference-with-safety-sensors-1484145678313

Non invasive “wall mount” opener (counting on standard counterweight spring system) can’t work perfectly when existing over head rails weren’t installed sloping downward towards - the drive way. Thereby the opened door on horizontal slope has less or no tendency to glide down. Problem? Set free suspension cable from the drum-rail. Potential fixes. - In full up position set the bottom panel 45-deg to encourage door glide forward on its weight. - fine unwind counterweight spring tension to encourage glide but slamming door to floor. - add ballasts to bottom panel to encourage... - add one, spring loaded cables, on each drum to pull door downwards as motor spins (diy) If all else fail, - buy a door pusher from its manufacturer.

u should mount the lock, if u rly try, u can open it bc the opener stops the spring, so it can be lifted wo spring with a lot of strength

Thank you buddy for the video. I also don’t see a useful purpose for a door lock or a cable monitor. Will try to bypass both. Door lock is easy, cable monitor not so much. 😊

Those connectors you mentioned at the end of your video, I think they may be WAGO type connectors. WAGO sells a tool that looks like a small blade screw driver. I hate these type connectors but they're almost an industry standard. Good old screw terminals are better for commercial consumers,
@CliffsGarage4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, those connectors are a pain, especially with tiny wires and 59-year-old eyes :)

Chamberlain doesn’t need to adjust anything installing this opener and everything is very simple very easy the door lock should be installed the tension monitor was probably installed incorrectly the way you hook up the wires in the opener is very easy just need to push it lightly and guide the wires in and you’re done and your emergency release rope you need to take at least 2 feet off of it so it’s not up to your stomach you want it about where your head is at least on his side mount opener

Well, my channel is too small for any videos to be monetized, so I actually *don't* make any money from this. And I only paid $13K for my 2006 Cayman S with 80K miles. It's actually the least expensive car I own.

Getting ready to build. My ceilings are 14 feet. My garage doors are 12 feet. Can I still have my doors hug the ceiling? Or do I need to go 13 foot high doors?
@CliffsGarage2 жыл бұрын
You'd have to modify the rails. IIRC you basically need to cut the 90-degree section in half and install a straight center part to push the top rails up near the ceiling. Check with the garage door company, they probably have a solution already engineered.

My door will open but not go down due to cable tension, but there is nothing blocking the door do you know that could be?
@bkburg46115 жыл бұрын
Hello. I think the deadbolt lock should be installed because only gravity is holding your door shut 😊.
@CliffsGarage5 жыл бұрын
Well, actually, in order to lift the door you would have to force the torsion bar to turn, which is being held by the opener. Pretty damn hard to do, actually, but possible. But I'm pretty sure thieves around here aren't going to work that hard. I'm mean, it's a heck of a lot easier to kick in a door or break a window.
@bkburg46115 жыл бұрын
Cliff's Garage if afraid you are mistaken. The torsion bar does not turn if the garage door was lifted by, say a jack. The door would lift, the cables will slacken up. The torsion bar is in a “locked” position by being coupled to the motor, but it is only cables that connects the door to the bar 😀. Good luck!
@CliffsGarage5 жыл бұрын
Well, I've actually done it and I can tell you it's true. Right in the video, before installing the opener, you can see me easily lift the door. There's been no change in the spring tension, but after installation it takes all my strength to budge the door a couple inches. I'm not arguing there's never any point in installing the bolt, but in my situation it's not worth the trouble.
@bkburg46115 жыл бұрын
Cliff's Garage yes, you are lifting all the weight of the door at this point without the help of the springs! Probably to much for would-be burglars! But are you sure you want to rely on just gravity keeping your door closed at night? What about if you go on vacation? Think about it...a pry bar and hydraulic jack to lift your door a foot and someone can slip inside. Just saying. Anyway cheers and goodnight!🌙
@CliffsGarage5 жыл бұрын
The springs _are_ helping, just as they always have. If they weren't, the opener couldn't lift the door. If I pull the release cord on the opener (detaching the motor from the torsion bar) I can lift the door with one hand.

The cable slack sensor senses if the cable breaks.
@grim_61024 жыл бұрын
No it’s Incase u throw a cable it senses sack. If u broke the opposite cable how would the motor kno? U only get one “cable tension monitor” in the box
@kyis615 жыл бұрын
Hi Cliff, thanks for the video. I'm thinking about purchasing. Do you know if there is a connector on the bottom at right front, kind of diagonal from the release cable? On the Liftmaster 8500 this is where you connect battery backup, but according to Chamberlain manual this is not an option, but I've heard differing opinions. I would assume there would be a charging voltage at these terminals if they exist? Thanks for checking!
@grim_61024 жыл бұрын
The battery backup is inside the motor and just has connectors. U only get abut 10 operations with it

I'm pretty sure the 8500 and RJO20 are exactly the same. my RJO20 has the port your talking about.

Cliff, do you find that the door closes a lot faster than it opens? Almost like it's dropping?

No, I haven't noticed that at all. If it _is_ closing faster than opening, it's not much of a difference.
