The 1st stage of installing a new "Jet Tub" or "Whirlpool Tub" is to build the "Tub Deck" around the new tub unit. Using 2"x 4"'s you will be building a series of supports around your tub deck that will help carry the load of the new tub when filled with water! The use of "Skirt Boards" or Ledger Boards combined with "Knee Wall" will get this stage of setting the new tub done correctly.

Use "Low Expansion" foam not "High expansion" foam and it works really well. I do not like concrete...to much added weight to the floor in my opinion. Joint compound also works good. Thanks for your comment! Eddie

Repair to what the basin? If you have to remove your entire tub it's most likely time for a new one! The foam is the way to go...it's much better than the old "joint compound puddle" that guys used years ago to support this kind of tub base. Thanks for stopping by our Bathroom remodeling channel. Great stuff is "high expansion". Go to the window and door section of the store and ask one of the employees for window and door expansion foam, this is "low expansion" foam. It does not "expand" as much as "high expansion foam does which might expand so much that it cracks the fiberglass tub unit! Make sure you only use "low expansion foam on your bathroom remodel project. Hope this helps! Eddie

Good question! Tubs, showers tub/shower combo units all get fastened directly to the framing members, never between other building materials such as drywall or cement board. Your always fastening framing to framing with nothing in between. Standard building practices really. You could do it if your framed wide enough for it but nobody does it! You just insulate your bathroom walls surrounding the unit and install your tub, shower whatever directly to the studs.

Foam is the way to go as long as you use "Low expansion foam". Low expansion foam is the same foam that you use around windows and doors. This low expansion foam will not expand "to much" which can crack your tub or shower base. High expansion foam is used for insulating purposes mainly and really...really...expands BIG and is not recommended for foaming the tub/shower base! Buy the low expansion foam at Home Depot at the window and door department. Hope this helps! Eddie

Your supposed to have your durock in before doing the shower floor. And you need a preslope for your pan then pan it then drypack it with 3 to1 sand and portland cement. Alot easier to slope than concrete.

Fir this entire Master Bath Our Labor was around $ 7,500.00 Materials for the Tub , Vanity & Sink Top, faucets Shower tile, Tub Deck Tile, Floor Tile, Glass for master shower, all accessories, etc. ran about another $10,500.00. So we capped out at roughly $18.000.00 for the entire bathroom project. This was a very good price considering the national average for a master bath like this one is around $23,000 to $26,000.00. Great video! Question: I am acting as my own GC and am exactly at this point of my house. Why did you not install the cement board right to the floor before installing the band-board? It would seem the insulation on the exterior wall side of the tub will be "open" without even having a vapor barrier covering it. Is there any reason I should not put the cement board over a vapor barrier before installing the tub? Is there any other way of contacting you with questions? Thanks!

Materials were around $7,500.00 to do it yourself. A paying client would spend about $15,000.00 to $17,500.00. So you can surely see the Stack of money money that can be saved with the D.I.Y. version of a bath like this one! Thanks for stopping by our bathroom remodeling KZbin channel. Eddie

In the shower you explained your diverter valve able to operate the 3 shower heads. Which brand is that diverter because I can only find a valve to operate 2 items separate and the 3rd function to operate both at same time. Can you explain how yours operates, can you do each individually or a combination of 2 or 3 at the same time?

I have been looking for the proper spray foam to use on a tub almost exactly like the one you installed. I am considering using TITEFOAM Big Gaps Insulating Foam Sealant as it seems to be a low expansion, high density, closed cell foam. If I use the wrong foam I know it will ruin the entire install. Could you please let me know the exact type of foam you are using? I would really appreciate it.

I'm currently installing a jet tub and want to say your video is great. I have one issue with my install. The tub, and motor is mounted on a chipboard sheet, as well as having 4 chipboard feet under neath this tub base. These feet are about 3" high so would you foam under the chipboard around these feet as well as around the tub, or just around tub itself above the chipboard. Cheers from Newfoundland

Great job man! I'm actually in the process of remodeling a bathroom which is going to have the same set up (jet tub with stand up shower having a window behind the tub). I would have never thought of a shower with a rain head but now I'm all for it. Right now, I'm trying to find info on foam vs concrete. There seems to be a bit of people completely against foam??? Anyways, I'll keep searching. Thanks for posting your very well done video

This electric outlet needs to be GFI protected. Most jet tubs are plugged in directly behind or directly below the tub unit it'self. If you are unsure of theelectrical phase of this project please call an electrician to do the actual electrical connections (wiring and outlet installation). Eddie

Question: I have SCORPIONS coming in through the Jet Whirlpool Tub. On the inside of the tub is about a 4" cover where it sucks the water in and pushes the water thru the jet tubes. The Scorpions seems to always enter thru that 4" cover where the water is sucked in. Can anyone explain how they are getting in and what to do to stop them? Thanks.

Hi, I am in the middle of a bathroom remodel. A little concerned about using foam under tub. I have a 66X36 soaker tub and it is not sitting on the floor due to the drain being a little higher then normal. This would consist of the tub being about 6 inches off the floor. My contractor wants to fill it underneath with foam. Is this safe and just concerned the tub will crack?

6" off the floor!!!??? Holy cow. I would want my tub sitting "on the floor" no matter what. You can't just foam a tub up 6" in the air... It sounds like your drain needs to be reconfigured to accommodate the new soaker tub not the other way around. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I think you might want to get a second opinion on this tub installation. Eddie
