@@EdwardInTX one recommendation...use the Metta speaker connectors for this job. hooked right into the factory bracket without having to tap the wires.
@RanchoNomada9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. I just replaced my speakers today but I used the factory frame to hold the speaker and soldered the old cables to my new speaker in order to keep original connector. All I had to do was cut the wires going to the speaker and then hitting the old speaker with mallet on the magnet. Now it sounds better but looks stock.

I did the same thing. Took out one frame only to find out the remaining hole was too large for my speakers (Cerwin Vega), so I cut out the old speaker and screwed the new one into the frame with self tapping screws. For the second one I left the frame in, cutting out the speaker in place.

why drill down rivets. Why not cut out the factory speakers and then install using the factory mounts. saves time and makes for cleaner install.
@nowisrelative6 жыл бұрын
That would be way messier. Separating the "mount" from the "speaker" would be much harder than drilling the rivets. You'd have to dremel through the plastic the whole circumference.

Can't give you a definite percentage on how much better, but it's noticeable with the right speakers. No more muddy bass and weak treble.
@stevefm9 жыл бұрын
***** Seems like worth doing then. I hate muddy bass.
@EdwardInTX9 жыл бұрын
Also quick note: replacing the head unit matters too--the OEM one doesn't go far in making the speakers sound better.
@stevefm9 жыл бұрын
***** I've been thinking of doing that in my 02. So to fill the space left by removing the stock unit you would need a spacer of some sort? It's a lot bigger than a CD Radio unit. And also you would lose the MPG/Average speed info which is displayed on the screen of the old unit?
@EdwardInTX9 жыл бұрын
Interesting to see you have the MPG/Avg speed built into your radio (just looked, USA Corollas don't have that). Yes, you would need the aftermarket radio bezel, which you can have single din with a little compartment opening on top (like mine) or a double din that takes the whole space.
