As a union electrician myself Josh is exactly right on the wire sizing and breaker sizing. The breaker size is allowed by code to be upsized to prevent nuisance tripping from inrush current at motor start up. Josh should also be praised for his tidy wire installation he would have been a prized electrician on any of my projects.

@Timothy Mckee A little more clarification, what do you mean?
@michaelbradley75294 жыл бұрын
@Timothy Mckee It's not a code requirement to have supplemental grounding for AC units. Grounding is already satisfied from the unit to the service disconnect and from the service disconnect to the main electrical panel which has a ground rod.

Just something to partly explain how this extraordinary couple got off the ground - but not an invasion of privacy. Your system can ABSOLUTELY handle the new load! We have the same unit (electric version) and it has an A/C and a heating option as well. Our home runs solely on electrical which costs us an arm and a leg in the wintertime when we run our heat through our vents and baseboard heaters- so we turn on this unit instead of the baseboard heaters and it barely makes a dent in our electric bill!!! It is SO efficient. Not to mention we only have one unit on the third level of our nearly 3,000 square foot home and it cools the entire home wonderfully so I doubt you’ll need the 3rd unit in the loft! Heat does rise but I would suggest running the other units first and seeing if they are enough. One unit is enough to cool our whole home but NOT enough to heat the whole home during our Canadian winters. Our electrician was able to make it “colder” by adding more A/C fluid. Great buy, guys!

@garyhoe4664 жыл бұрын
On their website, in the Q&A section, it said that even though the unit comes pre-charged, the lines still need to be evacuated? Can’t just connect and go.....
@flatearthdays4 жыл бұрын
if you put loctite and they still leaked your flares are not done right. Should never use loctite, it can leak into system and cause contamination. Use Nylog Blue it is designed for that. Improper flares from the factory could be an issue but mini split because of temperature and vibration will get loose over time. Also a torque wrench manual or digital is needed you can''t guess. One thing the DIY community doesn't know is I have rarely seen a Mr. Cool pre charged lineset be the correct pressure after install. Too many factors. It will work but it will be either under or overcharged and needs to be checked with gauges for maximum efficiency and lifespan. If its pre charged it does not need a evacuated with a vacuum. If you work in the field there is something about mini splits even the best brands installed like mitsubishi, the service and failure rates increase dramatically over time compared to traditional forced air ducted systems. I have noticed that personally in the field. A lot of good reviews of Mr. Cool but getting parts and warranty service is another issue that I believe will rear itself in the next few years.

I would recommend having some sort of cover over the outside units. I know they are outdoor rated, if in direct sunlight they work harder to cool. While deployed we would build a shelter for them to keep the heavy snowfall off and out of direct sunlight. Do your units have an air filter? Ours did not, we had to take an air hose and blow them out once a month to keep them working, and to keep the dust from being blown in our rooms. Place is looking good, I need to borrow Josh for some electrical work. I’ll hide the little Debbie’s till he is finished to help motivate him.

We've installed many of these systems(ductless mini splits). I've heard of these setups that have the refrigerant pre loaded into the line sets, head units, and condensers, but have never installed them. I've been skeptical about the connections being contaminated with small amounts of air. Hopefully you'll update us on the performance/maintenance in the upcoming years. I'm sure they are fine or they wouldn't keep selling them. The ones we install, have to have the connections pressure tested, have to be pumped down under vaccum, and then charged with refrigerant. They also can have multiple heads on a single condensing unit. These ones you did look way easier. Do these work as heat pumps? Just a minor point; we usually mount the outdoor units to heavy 6x6 pressure treated lumber. We've had a few of them blow over when anchored to condenser pads. You may be protected from high winds where you are. I can't wait for the next installment. Your house is beautiful and so is your family. Much respect guys.
@trevorfarlette99964 жыл бұрын
The lineset and indoor head should be pressure tested with nitrogen then evacuated with a vaccum pump with micron gauge to ensure the lineset is dry and sealed properly.
@scorpionsting474 жыл бұрын
@@trevorfarlette9996 nope. These diy systems are precharged with refrigerant: the head unit, the line sets, and the condensers. They have low loss quick connect fittings at the two units. Just hook them together and hope there are no leaks. That's why they applied the connections with the manufacturers special rubber wrappers. Look them up at Mr Cool DIY. They even carry a pretty decent warranty; even without professional installation. I just wonder if it covers them leaking. Although they should have tightened the connections with a torque wrench to spec. I had heard about these systems but have never installed them(been in hvac for 25+ years). But I did research them after watching this video. They seem great for this application. For people who are more than handy like these folks.

@@martymaloney1032 As I mentioned in a previous comment I am a union electrician as a general foreman and we are considered the highest trained electrical workers in the nation and I would put Josh in the top 3% of my peers. If he was on one of my jobs he would be a top candidate for foreman and even general foreman if he were willing to take on that kind of stress.

I’m a five year Master Electrician, I haven’t seen Josh make a mistake yet... other than trimming his majestic mane.

I so enjoy your demonstration of how you are making your home and I feel that it is the way to go! I’m proud of what you have accomplished, and maybe a little jealous of your ability to do what you have done!...My husband and I can’t work together like you do and if we had to we would never lasted 36 years of marriage, 6 children, our first biological granddaughter of H1N1 but she had only one kidney ate everything in sight including out of sight yet looked anorexic, and now soon to be 15 grandchildren! So I’m proud of what you have accomplished and not really jealous because look at I do have! Keep the videos coming and just be the best parents and family that you can! I believe that you have faith and so do I and that’s what makes work! God Bless!!!!
