I have worked with several electricians and electrical contractors. I can tell you that Josh is up there with the most qualified, and professional electricians in the world. His system design is professional and elegant. It speaks to a highly organized mind. From me, that is high praise. So many people hit a problem with the attitude that I can do it, but then get bogged down trying to perform the work. Hit and miss is not the way to take care of a problem. In the installation of the original system, you made the statement that you were planning on expanding it. You planned for it and laid the work out so that you could do just that. Your expansion recently covered in several videos demonstrated that you had planned out the expansion and that you had done your homework on the products that you would use, and the manner in which they would best serve your needs. Well done! Good job standing for your husband Erin. Great Job being the man worthy of that Josh!

So you are in it for about $15K for a total off grid home. 5 year pay off... and it will last for years! I find it interesting how some people look at the payoff on solar. Maybe a $20K system, and they look at the payoff that may be 20 years. And they think it's not a good investment. But they will buy a $50K pickup that just sits and loses money over a 5 - 7 year period and they think that is just fine. Can't light your house with the pickup.... I think what you two are doing is wonderful! A great investment.

When we looked into having ours installed, it was about double the cost of the components. So the $15k in equipment I bought would have been a 30k bill had I let someone else install it. I did it myself and I can tell you it is easier than you may think. Ours is just a 3.3kW system with 16-305 ah AGM batteries. I did mine in 2014 and it would be much less today.
@gardengatesopen3 жыл бұрын
I was wondering this same thing. How many man hours would be needed? Of coarse, this depends on the situation. But what DOES a qualified electrician charge for such a job? Is it by the hour? Or by the job? Just for grins, if it's hourly, how much does a qualified electrician cost per hour these days? I also wonder how many hours the family put into that entire project! There were times kid labor was used - and that definitely counts too!!! Good video y'all ❤ I'm no where near an electrician's level, and I understood every word. Thanks for all your info ❤❤❤

I watch every episode of your fantastic journey and always finish each one with a smile and a feeling of gratitude that I learned something. Keep on doing what you do best - forge ahead with energy and passion. Don't pay attention to any negative comments. They are saying more about the person who wrote them than they are about you. I live in Texas, we had 21 inches of snow and got down to minus 3 degrees Fahrenheit. I built my home for livability during this type situation. I have a 250 gallon propane tank with gas logs, gas cook stove, and heaters in all bathrooms. I also have a manual disconnect on my house where I can hook up my Honda EU 7000 generator to my home for lights, fridge and deep freezers. We made it just fine. I keep 80 gallons of non ethanol gas with Stabil fuel stabilizer in it. I fill up in October each year and if I don't use the gas during the winter I use it in my mowers mowing 8 acres of yard each spring. Most homeowners sadlly failed to plan for this type situation. Great video guys, congrats on building your own power plant. Truly amazing what you accomplished! I live in Texas and your video really hit home. We were fortunate in that we never lost power but friends and relatives did. Next time we may not be so lucky. Currently looking at a backup generator for our house.

I bought from altE as well and have half the system as you. Runs all my house in the summer. And a quarter in the winter. Wind generator is then used to charge batteries and generator for no wing and grey days in February. 20 k. Love it

Josh's knowledge-filled design of their electrical system, his installation, skills, work ethic, attitude, even his ability to articulate what he was doing: all BRILLIANT! I can't imagine having to defend an oz of it to anyone for any reason. And Erin is an able and rugged helper with their combined humor being front and center add the grease to make it all turn wisely, fluidly, and gracefully. Even the analysis is stunning. Thank you.

Absolutely love you guys. Erin: Remember I am the brains of this outfit. Priceless. If I was to install solar I would absolutely want Josh and Erin installing it for me. Erin do not sell yourself short, I have watched you working side by side with Josh in every aspect of your build and you guys are awesome. By far my favorite channel. What would be the cost for someone of Josh's expertise have cost you to do all of the wiring on your solar system?

That price not even including the incentives is amazing. Absolutely love your system. Josh is a great guy and a pro no doubt. Love watching all of your videos. You guys are a joy to watch. Great family and animals.

Thank you for the full breakdown and links. Throughout the entire process, I was consistently impressed with Josh's professionalism and attention to safety and detail. If he was a local contractor in the area where I was building, I'd hire him in a NY second.

I have no words for josh. That man broke his back and gave his soul to build that house for his family. You know what is reward is ? Having a beautiful wife who loves and respects him and will fight for him. And those little kids having a great life. God is great! And I’m over here in nyc homeless and poor go figure.

Thanks for this breakdown and your thoughts on the system! My wife and I are building our first home outside of the city and will be building off-grid solar. Your costs are right in line with the solar company we have chosen.
