Yours is the first method I was able to actually use successfully. Making a dummy door is the best way to know if your placement of the hinge will work. Many thanks.

Installed my first full-overlay hinges today and I found this very useful, expecially the small scrap with a hinge installed to use to locate the cabinet half of the hinge! I used a Kreg jig to drill the door side and the scrap to mark screw holes for the other.

Thank you so much for this video!!! If I hadn't found it I would still be pulling my hair out!! I was fitting non-Ikea hinges to an Ikea cabinet with with no instructions. In the hinge packet there was some simple instructions and a formula to work out where to drill the holes for the hinge, but absolutely nothing about where to attach the hinge mounts. Your mini door method worked a treat and saved me from losing my sh*t. Again. Thanks!!!

After doing and re-doing the cups, for a 3/4 plywood door, use the #3 setting on the Kreg jig, to drill out the cup holes, for Blum 71B355(0) full overlay hinge. I put the 0, in parentheses because on the hinge itself it’s marked without it. In the Blum catalog it’s listed with the 0.

@utavatar3 жыл бұрын
Error warning, in the video they suggest getting an even spacing at the top and then screwing the hinges in. The guy then holds the template in place with his hand. that is not the way you maintain an even spacing. To maintain the exact spacing across a single cab or a 1000 cabs you use a spacer strip. If you want an 1/8" gap at the top of all your doors you s cut a 1/8"spacer strip and place it at the top of the template and press it to the top of the cab .If you have two or more doors in the cabinet you cut the spacer strip to run the entire width of the cabinet and keep it in place every time to use the template for drilling the hinge bases.
@uhN0id6 ай бұрын
I liked his tips and demonstration but I was thinking the same thing. Why not at least throw some playing cards in there to ensure both sides will be even. Or better yet get a full length strip of wood that matches the desired gap and tape it on while drilling the wholes with the template?

@MrCook-fz8jp4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. You could even use one of your stiles prior to final assembly as your template if you do tongue and groove style cabinet doors. That's what I plan to do since my doors are going to be 15" wide x 48" tall. That would make it much easier to align the hardware for mounting.

Great. I'm redoing my cabinets in the kitchen and want to replace the old style hinges with the new European style such as the one's you did. I may keep the old doors, just strip them and then spray them or I may get just new doors. I was looking at the new doors moments ago and I see that the company charges something like $5 per door for the hinges. Not much if it's only one. But I have about 60 doors to do so that's a little different. Anyway, this looks like fun. I made a note of the jig you used and I'm going to shop for that right now. Thanks again.

From your experience, is it advisable (justo save some time mounting and dismounting hinge cups) to have the dummy door with hinge cups, but to use one hinge cup and just switch hinge plates? Basically, you are using one hinge cup to align all hinge plates. Since the hinges are screwed in using a template, there shoudn't be much offset....what's your take on that?
@SpannerAT344 жыл бұрын
Very clever. Use a bit for the cabinet bracket that will find the center of holes accurately. Using a small pilot bit wont always find the center

4:41 never mount the hinges' plates like that. There's plenty of reasons why you should avoid it by all means.
