Best thing I have seen all day. Nothing beats an old timer.

This video is fantastic. I have never rebuilt an engine in my life. I pulled the engine from my Mercedes-Benz 560SL a couple of weeks ago and finally removed the heads. That’s when I found deep scoring in one of the cylinders (car sitting 14 years). Not knowing what I was doing I panicked because of the scoring. I remembered that in the 70’s they put sleeves in VW’s so I started searching and found your video. Then I found they have sleeves for my 560SL. I have been documenting the entire car rebuild on my KZbin channel. Thanks again.

I can't believe this guy was right down the street from my house for years. Right after this video, we moved out of Diamond Springs, due to California politics. But it's a very nice place to live, if you have to be in California....

Scott, good to see you here. Ive dumped facebook sometime back, moved back north to be near the grandkids. Sold the 46 to help finish the "new" house remodel. I will be looking for the next project sometime in the near future.

What a lost art! So many machine shop shutting down. The guy i use is 82 years old and ready to retire. Slow and steady but get it done and does great work. Don’t know what I’ll do when he’s out of the place.

What a fantastic video, thank you! I'd be interested to know what the outer diameter of the sleeve is, or what the cylinders need to be bored to to accept the sleeves with the interference that is mentioned in the video?

My first job was a driver for an auto parts machine shop. Back then you got your engine rebuilt at a gas station. They would pull the engine. I would pick it up and bring it to the shop. We would hot tank it, manniflux it, valve job it. Nearl the pistons. New rings. Resurface and have it back after lunch. By the end of the day the customer picked up his/her car.

Excellent. Can you provide the name and number of the shop who rebuilds your L134's in Charleston? My parents live in Mount Pleasant and I thought I'd bring my engine with me next time I go visit them. Thanks ROn

I see an outline around the bolt holes. Did you have to fit some Timeserts to repair bolt holes? Showing people how to use Timeserts is a good idea if you haven't already done so.

I’ll assume he has passed his experience and skills to someone of a younger generation. It would be a shame to lose all that to the ages. At 92 who knows?
