I feel like the wood is better, because it'll bend and flex with the rest of the house, and put less destructive focused force on the tops and bases of the pillars. The metal looks like it could tear thru the wood it's anchored into.

I’m planning to buy akiya in the near future. This is the topic of concern as I’d want a safe strong earthquake-proof home. For a house that is older and needs more engineering I wonder what the costs might be. For example if it needs foundation work and more structural renovation. Any ideas ? As for wood vs steel I’d prefer the look of wood. But for me aesthetics are far less important than structural integrity. Whatever makes it stronger in all aspects is the utmost importance

What happened to using bamboo for flexible housing? Great video. I used metal braces on all my joints recently. I highly recommend it for noobies to cover minor errors and add security to your project.

Clearly this is in the past, but something that you can do to speed up the process is to set up the center line, then lay the board over the parts that you want to join, mark with a pencil then cut slightly off the pencil line.

It obviously seems like you spent a whole lot of time in Japan to learn your japanese but what would you say was the biggest factor in helping you learn? I would love to own a house in Japan but worried by language skills would hold me back from getting good contractors or making friends with neighbours. Also interesting to find out how you became a model in Japan? 😊

Top Tip: Please, never have your hand in front of any saw blade. Imagine that it may slip and lunge forward, and that could very bad. It made me nervous when I saw that. I've seen many such accidents. And hearing protection (ear plugs) or you'll go deaf, slowly, but surely. Like your videos
