Tom did an amazing job on that mantle. That's old school knowledge and skill right there. I hope he has plenty of apprentices learning from a true master of his craft. 👍👍👍

Absolutely ,I'd been tempted to put up faux beam? ,or regular lighter mantle ,faced it with old barn planks to appear old. Just to avoid having to manhandle that big ole hunk of wood....might even be cheaper?? or not..dont know cost of wide reclaimed barn plank. Definitely worth the price of my back.. But I guess work with what your given Guy is a champion.. .maybe what those long texts were saying was.....dude,Brad send this beam to a mill...make my back happy...its not load bearing...if i have to use it..you come and lift it.....please

Something I did at a good friends camp was , we built a mantle like that out of worm wood cypress, covered the background in stone , but we used an illuminescent resin or glow in the dark so to say, resin to fill in and protect the wood, added in some silver flake to the resin and we mixed a few different colors, but anyways it looked amazing like looking through a telescope at the galaxy in low light
