***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

It works good putting the drip tape on top of the ground cover weed barrier, instead of under the cover?

Drip tubing, emitters, quick connects, faucet timer--all are life savers! I don't think I'd ever garden without them. Having the watering chores taken out of gardening makes more time for family!

Thank GOD y'all made this video! You guys always explain things in just the right amount of detail. Most of the other videos are all marketing hype, not solid "how do do this" videos. I got stuck on your channel for days when I ran across y'all - came to learn one thing, then 3 hours later ... then repeated the same thing every couple of days for a couple of weeks.

I was folding my drip tape and pushing it in the end cap. Not often but every now and then the end caps might slip off. I found that if you fold the tape once, push it through the cap enough that it came out the other side. I would then thread a staple through that loop then pull the loop and tape back toward the cap and this made a tight seal plus the staple keeps the cap from sliding off the tape.

I'm sooo tired of pulling weeds and trying to water. I'm going to try this with the weed barrier this year and I'm so excited to actually pay attention to my plants instead of the weeds and the hoses. I learn so much from your projects and your vedios. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much for showing this. I thought it was sooo much harder and it’s really not! You have no idea what this means to me. I’ve been worried about how much longer I’d be able to water my garden. I use a watering can...yessss old school style! Takes FOREVER annnd I’m disabled. Those two gallons are heavy and the back and forth KILLS ME! This is worth it to me even on my small scale. Gardening is truly my therapy. It gives me a reason to get up and DO something!! I simply can’t thank you enough for this demo! God Bless you! ~Lisa

If you would like a cheap or free option. I just used an old hose and drilled little holes in it. My only advice would be to make sure you drill all the holes on the same side of the hose...I didn't and in one area the water either squirts up or doesn't come out. Live and learn :-)

I would cover the drip tape. I have hot summers with high pH, mineral water and the heat evaporates the water and leaves the minerals that clog my drip holes. I am using the 1/4 inch drip hose from Home Depot so not quite the same as the product you are using. I have to replace the drip lines every year as the work less and less every year. I do water at night and still have issues. I have covered the lines with chip mulch this year and the whole garden is working lot better.
@JaureguiJ
@JaureguiJ 6 жыл бұрын
We use a loop system for our lines meaning, on both sides we run a main line. If something gets clogged in the middle of the system water can still come out because it will come from the other side. Keep growing. can't wait to see some great vegetables.

Thanks for the tutorial. I spend way too much time watering my massive gardens and potted plant collection. Since I already have a million feet of the tubing given to me by friends I will be just using tubing but I figure the principle is similar. Should have done this years ago. Finally thinking about getting it done. So much to do on my homestead seems like it's hard to decide whats most prudent daily. Great video!

Love the info you provide. I tried an irrigation system layout like yours the first year. Second year ran main header thru the middle rather than top/bottom of garden and branched off left and right. Fixed my issues of some areas not getting water due to my Ibc (have 6, stacked horizontally in 3 columns x 2 high) low pressure. Third year added a battery operated on/off switch I had bought in the 90's and now set it to water 1/2 hour after sunrise. This year I am doing meat birds and meat rabbits thanks to info from your channel and off grid with Doug and Stacy. Thanks in advance.

I have not done it on top so I assume that you are going to get some run off by doing it that way. The 3 ounce fabric is permeable but when I wash down my greenhouse floor it doesn't always just immediately go through it. By going below the fabric the mulch will keep evaporation to a minimum as well! You can skip buying end caps to save money too. Just cut off the last emitter from the tape and use the 2 inch piece of drip tape that has the emitter on it the same way that you do that end cap! Just my thoughts. Chuck

I was able to pick up four IBC containers yesterday up in oak grove for $50 apiece. I was very happy for that. I got two of them hooked up in preparation for last nights storm and I was able to fill up one container so far. We’re supposed to get more thunderstorms tonight so I need to hook up the other two containers. I plan on using a pump and then dropping it in the IBC tanks to pump out and water the garden using drip tape. Great explanation of the drip tape set up!

I have had trouble putting the parts on mine, but didnt know if they back turn to hold in place so I will check!!!! I have drip lines on my berry lines too! I have a 4 faucet post, and connect the hose to it. Each faucet waters a different garden, so I dont have to move hoses, just turn and close faucets at central location!

With the dark colored hose and tape, won't the water in the lines heat up from the sun and possibly even hurt the plants, especially after it has sat for several hours and the water pressure is first turned on?

Hey guys! I just watched the video! I enjoy the videos you guys have done. Makes me miss my days of urban "farming" when I lived in Oklahoma. By absolutely by no means, am I trying to start a fight, or say anything bad because you guys are actually doing good things! I used a drip irrigation in Oklahoma during the drought of 2011. Drip irrigation. - The drip i used was tubes and it was alot of work to setup. Had to cut the 2 different sizes of tubes and install the emitters. With that one I was able to control exactly where the water went and how much water with different types of emitters. Different plants require different amounts of water to be happy. How are you going to make sure all of them are happy? - I think you said theirs an emitter in the tape every 12 inches. Some plants get to big to plant them that close to each other. Is there a way to close or turn off those emitters? - My system had a water pressure regulator as well. If not, the emitters ended up in the neighbors pool. Took me a little bit to figure that out. lol Or am I over thinking it? LOL Ground Fabric: I found it to be a great sun reflector. Ended up having to throw hay ontop to keep my plants happy. I also found it a bit to slow to soak. I ended up using soaked newspaper while I was planting. Made it much easier to clean up the garden area in the fall. Yank out the drip and till everyting under. Keep up the great work guys! I appreciate it!!!!!
