This is actually a standard in Europe. My Dutch partner told me so 😅 since in Norway we do much more wooden floord and are using the heating system made of thin foil. However, we both now live in Turkey where they have very little knowledge of any of these systems. 😂 Here in Southern Turkey, warm floors are not so much used but if they make them it is mostly the way we did it in the very beginning in Europe. We do not have cold winters, so most people do not find it necessary. 😉

As a Scot I will quite freely admit that I would never have thought to put underfloor heating in a house. We put in HRV system and air conditioning which is both hot/cold and filters the air, but it never occurred to me to put in this type of heating. Perhaps I’m very old fashioned and still think of it as luxurious- but it makes sense in a mountain home. And one with solar power.

You are going to love radiant floor heating. Be sure to put in plenty of zones. When I don’t have guests, I can lower those rooms to 50 f. I also like my bedroom cooler than my kitchen and living space. I have died cement floors with scattered area rugs. I am considering installing a thin cork tile floor in the kitchen and living area to soften things on my feet and make it less slippery for my golden retrievers. My place is super insulated and with radiant heating my NG bill in February tops at about $40 per month…..and Montana gets pretty cold (-30 F). At some point I will convert to an electric hot water boiler with solar on my roof. Make sure you go high end on your pumps and solenoids. I’m running water through my pex lines.
