2019 Crosstrek Hella horns installation, don’t make the same mistakes I did!

I managed to install 2 hella horns on my 2020 Crosstrek without removing the bumper or even the grill. The only thing I had to remove was the front plastic cover on top, lift off the airfilter attachment next and also remove the airfilter housing with that big white plastic 'bottle' below, held in place with 2 10 mm bolts outside and one inside. With a mirror and a flashlight the 'hidden' 2nd' horn is then visible, and easy to pull off the cable from the single connector on it, leaving the horn installed but disconnected. A new cable with a male connector will fit into the female connector removed from that horn, and fed all the way to the relay. The one 'easy to reach' horn in front of the radiator I left connected as it completes the circuit when pushing the horn button. It will still 'beep' together with the 2 Hella's, but drowned out by the Hella's. One Hella I mounted on the same bracket of the still functioning original horn, which I had removed and tyed up with a tiedown out of the way. The other Hella I mounted with a little spacer on one of the available holes on the drivers side. No special wiring packages or wobbly external brackets needed, and the whole thing works perfectly. 🙂

I was able to just disconnect the second horn by removing the air filter assembly I then tie wrapped the plug to an adjacent harness. all other stuff was done by just removing the fairing. I created my own wire harness assemble I guess 30 years as an aircraft mechanic helped that.

Hey Mike, we’re you able to use the 2017 wire harness from Subimods for the horn and did it work with the 2019?

Subimods has the best wiring harness by far. Still using the one from my previous WRX on my Crosstrek.

I just bought them from the hardware store, I found one that fit and got them long enough to space the horns away from the bumper support and used nuts as spacers

Did you disconnect the second stock horn on the lower passenger side of the bumper?

I honestly don’t remember, I think I took the horns to the hardware store and tried stuff till it fit.
