Hi everyone, believe it or not I couldn't find these strap locks on Amazon anywhere but they are on eBay (Australia). If you google them you'll no doubt find them in your local area! Rock on folks! 😎

Most music shops carry them! We have them. They are an AMS item!

I’ve watched them fail twice; one of those resulted in a broken Les Paul headstock. I’ll stick with Grolsch washers.

They can be found on Thomann in Europe, branded as Harley Benton. I have a mix of these and Schallers on all my guitars, and a single strap that fits on all my guitars. Super convenient and affordable!

But that’s left handed strap lock.... do they also have regular ones? 😋

Best strap lock? The rubber seal/gasket of a Grolsch beer bottle. For real! (Funny enough they can be bought from Amazon). Plus a nice cold fresh beer of course! Not kidding i've used them for years, no screwing, just popping it on.
@MarkSD6 жыл бұрын
I keep the beer bottle seal on my guitar strap lock buttons, just in case of a strap without locks on them.

No. I tried using that with my lightweight epiphone casino and the crap came undone and banged / dinged my guitar on a table. They kind of work with some guitars but not all and they're nowhere near the most reliable or best.

I bought a leather punch to make exactly the right size hole to fit schaller locks on straps. They're pretty cheap and well worth the investment. It makes for a much better fit. If the hole is too small, the leather curves and the strap can slip off.

The only thing I would add is don't overly tighten the screws into the guitar because it might crack the finish. Just tighten until they feel snug.

I changed from standard pins to Schaller / Grover pins in a semi-acoustic tenor guitar. I've done this many times on Fenders, etc. The screw sheared off & I couldn't remove it. Off to the repairer - 3 week wait & $100 to fix - so be careful!
@Claimjumper556 жыл бұрын
Those will get the job done. I have Schaller's on 2 of my guitars but the rest are DiMarzio Clip-locks, which I prefer.

From Leo: No criticism to your work. Good product review. While not mandatory, I always use a felt washers to protect the guitar finish against damage. You can buy them by the bag in black or white pretty cheap.
@marksguitars56176 жыл бұрын
I bought a set recently, the washers that hold the strap failed, made out of a cheap composite that looks like hardened chrome colored plastic. Hopefully they have been improved by now. I gig often and tend to play rough. The Schallers or Dunlop strap locks never failed on me
@craigparse14396 жыл бұрын
I ALWAYS outfit my favorite guitars with strap locks. I like the Schaller ones because they actually will support the guitar even if the retention spring and pin fail. I bough some 'budget' strap locks (Schaller-style) from GFS and I have no complaints, but I didn't put it on a guitar I care about. I have had one Schaller lock fail on me though. The threading on the strap side actually broke away from the base.
@rockindavebyron39606 жыл бұрын
Hey Shane, that's the same way I install & use them, & if you've some of my live gigs on KZbin, you'll see that those work perfectly. However, on the guitars I throw around my body, those straps are presently bolted to the guitar with large washers !!! Great video bro !!!

Same kind of strap locks I use, and it's for my Strat and Tele, and I am left handed as well. It's all good.

I use this type of straps locks on two guitars for years. I want to mention three small disadvantages: straps without locks won't fit anymore, so you have to make sure your strap stays with the guitar. Second: be careful when you put the strap on or off the guitar while your standing. When the locks hit the guitar, they can cause dents. Some of us might not like this kind of relicing. Third: over time the screw of locks on the strap tend to loosen and you might not notice. Make sure to check that every now and then. If you can deal with that, i can absolutely recommend this type of strap locks..
@jamjar200496 жыл бұрын
I went back to the rubber washer type of straplocks, ended up buying the Fender ones as I didn't like the taste of Grolsch. The Schaller ones were OK for a while but the U shaped metal piece used to turn around so the open end was down, when I removed the lock my strat nearly hit the deck twice due to the upside down U shape catch not being in the correct vertical position. Should be alright if you check them every time you remove the strap, but remember to support the neck just in case.
@mistermoonlight17196 жыл бұрын
The rubber ones didn't work on my casino, and it unfortunately hit / dinged on a table. they work with some guitars but not all and they're not the most reliable.
@chrisjackson37226 жыл бұрын
Just a useful hint, if the strap hasn't had locks fitted previously the holes will be too small. I used to use a knife to make it bigger, this was time consuming and sometimes turned into a bit of a pigs ear. I bought an 8mm hole punch of eBay this was quite inexpensive, I now just place a piece of wood under the existing hole in the strap and just push through with the punch. The strap lock then drops straight in.

I own the originals as well as some less expensive knock-offs like these. The way they are able to keep the price so low is by using inferior pot metals instead of the proper steel that Schaller or Dunlop will use. I've never had an issue with the cheaper ones and the mag wheel on yours is a nice look too!

I like the idea of the strap locks, but I found the metal would bend over time, and even if it didn't, if your pickups are slightly microphonic, you'll get a bunch of creaking sounds coming through the amp from the strap lock components rubbing against each other.
@cass27716 жыл бұрын
Nice demo. They seem to extend a fair way from the guitar. Do the guitars still fit in their cases ok?

I have the exact same strap locks, but they are branded differently in our country (Philippines) They are branded as RJ Strap Locks here.
@nlmal46 жыл бұрын
Hi intheblues, they're good straplock but be careful when you are for example in a gigging situations and you pull the strap(s) down / up if you are too rough with the straps on straps belts side. They can damage your guitar top finish.
@bigjimbo8206 жыл бұрын
Just a tip to add. If your only using one strap you only need to buy the pieces that screw into the guitar. These are available even cheaper from most guitar hardware suppliers.

I wish there was a cheaper version of the dimarzio strap clip lock. I absolutely got addicted to those things but they are quite expensive considering it's just a bit of plastic and a regular nylon strap.

They sounded a bit clicky and rattley when you first attached the strap to the guitar and moved around. Are they quiet once you stand up and let the weight of the guitar rest on them? Continued rattling would be a deal breaker for me.

They are pretty good. Been using them on all my guitars except the new two and had no problems. I will be converting the SX over too hehe 😳😄

I really should invest in some strap locks, so I can stop using those plastic fasteners that come with your average sliced loaf :) Only thing I'd have done differently is I would probably have blitzed the screws in with an overpowered for the job cordless drill ha ha.

Not sure why you would trust a nice, expensive Custom Shop Tele to a set of crappy, cheap Chinese pot metal 'knock offs' when a set of German quality engineered nickel plated Schallers is only about £12. Quality guitar warrants quality accessories (IMHO). Got Schallers on all my electrics, and the neck buttons of all my electros and acoustics. (Mind you I can also manage to budget for a decent quality - 'LeatherGraft', soft leather with suede underside, about £20 a pop - strap for each of 'em as well!)
