Installing Kings & a Body Mount Chop to fit 315s on a 4Runner

In this video, we finish the job from yesterday by doing a body mount chop to be able to fit 315s on a 4Runner. Doing a body/cab mount chop is the most common thing to do to make big tires fit on a 4Runner or a Tacoma.
We use a generic plate in this video but soon we'll be able to have our own plates to allow the maximum amount of clearance.

People that usually buy pro’s are the ones that didn’t do much research, literally just like “give me the highest trim” and call it a day, I’d honestly just get a trd off road or an sr5 and start the project from there.

@@RCGJR_ Agreed. I just made a purchase coming in soon of an Off road premium, with KDSS. Literally all the same features as pro but $8k less. I’ll take better suspension over a big rack and fancy skid plate

Very nice work! I have a 2022 trd off road 4 runner and have been thinking about doing a 3 inch dobinson front and 2 inch back with new control arms. I would prefer to run 33x12.50s because they are wider tire than the 285. I also want to use a 10 inch wide rim but not sure what offset I need for that setup.

The lower the offset the less you have to worry about clearance. -12 and below should be perfect. Anything higher you will need to do a chop or relocate.

You should have used lower control arms with a 1" offset towards the front so to avoid cutting as much

I will appreciate if you answer my question back. do you have to do more trimming if you do 285/75/17 with a -38 offset wheels cause leaning towards that set up. I see some 4Runners on ig that they didn’t even have to do viper cuts to fit a 35’s tires

With -38 offset you will definitely have to do more trimming along with a body mount chop. You can get away with not doing a viper cut but I am not sure how much wheeling those guys do. They might not rub just street driving but when you hit a bump on the trails you will see why you want to do a cut.

How do you get the steel-it in the full back of the BMC plate? Or should it have been sprayed first, edges cleaned, welded, and resprayed?

Should had done some wheels turning testing see if make any different then mine...I have 285 17x9-25 with 1.25 wheels spacer. I did more trimming then this 4runner.

That’s because you have so much negative offset and then adding the 1.25” spacers. The more it sticks out the more trimming

With the kings are you having to add adjustable links and spacers with the sway bar? I have a KDSS and I can’t find info on keeping the front sway bar with spindle gussets and kings.

Engine and transmission is not the issue on the Tacoma it is the ratio and how tall certain gears are. 4 runner also only has 5 speed transmission. Both would benefit from a regear. I would also suggest latest tsb if you have a pre 2020 Tacoma (including manual transmission) it has helped with the software. Prior to regear there is always the budget friendly option to Ovtune on the Tacoma. I currently have 285 70 17 (previously 285 75 16) method wheels wrapped in general grabber x3 with manual transmission (4.30 gears) and ovtune I have zero issues or complaints. Does not feel sluggish. Avg mpg 18.6 amd that is mixed city/ highway.

I'm running 35x12.50 Goodyear Ultraterrain load range e's on our 2019 4Runner ORP, regeared with Nitro 4.56's. Mixed use I would average about 15.5 mpg before and about 13mpg after regear. I'm not sure that's too accurate though as the speedo and odometer are off now, on the low side. 65mph on the odometer reads at 73mph on the Scan Gauge II and GPS units. On the hwy before was about 17.8mpg (Denver to Salt Lake and back). After regear it displayed 18.3mpg from Denver to Colorado City and back. Admittedly I have not done the math to figure out the actual by getting the GPS distance (instead of using the odometer). Next time I go to Colorado City I will though as I've been really curious.

Toyota rear axles will not stand-up to 35s beyond mild/paved roads. I have Dana 44s on my Jeep & can run 37s off-road with no issues. Just letting you know, as I’ve been wheeling for years & have seen Yotas stranded for this very reason. 4Runners & Tacomas are stretched to their thresholds with most 33s (based on weight/rolling mass).

Because a wheel is the entire round piece the tire is mounted on and bolts to your vehicle. The rim is part of the wheel, more specifically it's the "lip" or edge that the tired beads up to on the wheel.
