Very nice. I had the same reaction when I swept some dust into the floor sweep for the first time. Such a simple tool, but so awesome. I love having my dust collector in the other room, because of the sound. Can barely even hear it. Great job, thanks for the video.

I used a similar setup with the Harbor Freight dust collector. We plumbed inside the shop with 4" PVC pipe. We were able to position the motor, impeller and the trash can under an awning/covered area behind the shop. The exhaust just blows straight out behind the shop into the weeds. A floor sweep is definitely the next thing to add!! It really is nice how quiet the dust collector is when it's outside the shop!

+Joe Jones HAHA, I have the same issue, up until last year. I've got 2 of them as well, 1 is actually still in the box. I got one of them assembled finally, and hooked up to my table saw, the other one I planned on hooking up to the planer...maybe someday. I'd rather get a floor put in the shop than have 2 dust collectors hooked up, but as with everything else, the lack of $$$ always is an issue.

April, I love the idea of building a shed to for the dust collector! I had mounted mine high in the air, but it is too noisy being in the same room. I plan to build a shed now. When it gets done, that's another issue. I built a step up floor out of Two by Sixes and plywood to go to my stationary tools. The power lines are also in the step up floor. This has worked out really well for me. I painted it grey and the paint is still in excellent condition, even with me walking all over it for all these years. There is a little step to go over it, but it has never been an issue to me. Since I put mine in many years ago, I built all my blast gates. They are a bit of a pain, so I plan to replace them with purchased gates. Thanks so much for inspiration. John Esposito

Great job April! I actually build my own dust collector and I have 2 videos on my channel of the build. But I still haven't hocked it up to anything! So I know the feeling of having something you need to do but you just keep putting it of. But the feeling of relief when you get it done is great! Keep up the great work!

This video is really fantastic. I have the same Freight Harbor dust collector, and have been planning a wall mount, two-stage filter (just like yours), and plan to vent outside as well. Mine will be mounted inside the shop because I live in Seattle where rain is a constant, and I have no adjoining shed or other outside shelter. Anyway, I learned A LOT from your videos. I've been thinking about how to rotate the collector because of the vent direction, and you were kindly brave enough to pull off the flange and describe how it is mounted to the motor - so now I can use your tip! Also, I was stumped figuring out how to attach some kind of quick-release "lid" on my trash can so that I can easily attach/detach the baffle. Your system looks pretty good, I'll probably try a different approach, but I was inspired by your use of the buckle system on the trash can handles. BRILLIANT!!! Anyway... I have loved all your videos. You are working on so many similar projects and I'm really impressed with how you work through issues, and how quickly you are able to complete these projects. My miter workstation took weeks, many redesigns, and I've just completed modeling version 3 in SketchUp and am doing cuts / rabbets, etc, today (pre-assembly). Thanks for all the inspiration, I'll be subscribing and following along on your awesome projects.

Awesome job, April. I started off with flex hose for my trunks and quickly grew to hate it for air resistance. I switched to galvanized 4" pipe and it was night and day.

Hi April, great job on the new "fitted and working" dust collector. But what i do like is the floor sweep port, this is a great addition to yours and any shop. You can get switches for the blast gates to switch on the motor as and when you need it, we have them fitted in a shop i work in, no remotes to loose.

Hi April, I'm jealous! Just a suggestion - there should be no problem exhausting your dust collector out of your shed. Since that is technically not a load bearing wall, I would cut the hole in the wall through the stud and frame around it similar to a window. I think you did pretty much the same thing when you mounted your A/C unit in your shop.

Good job, just keep in mind in you get a real winter where you live that the dust collector will also suck all the heat out of your shop, the only good thing is if you have your air compressor in the shed also it will stay nice and warm.

If you want to have a removable hose (like that one that goes to your table saw) and don't want to un-do a hose clamp every time here's an idea: Get/make two flanges like that on the inside of the through-wall duct. Then drill some corresponding holes in the flat parts of them. Glue in some rare earth magnets in the holes. Now you will have a coupling that can be disconnected and reconnected easily, or even blocked off completely using a small sheet of metal. Magnets for this project can be got at HF really cheap.

Hey April, I finally took the plunge into dust collecting. Installing the collector was a piece of cake. I put it in my attic so anything that sneaks out of it will be harmless. However I found plumbing this thing was a huge undertaking. I ran the 60 feet of pipes thru the attic where but still hanging the rest from a 10 ceiling was interesting. It's finally in and can't wait to use it and trouble shoot everything. Thanks for the inspiration any tips. Maybe one day I'll get a big ole shop like yours.

Thumbs up!! With the issue of the hose being in the way of the blast gate/floor sweep you could simply turn "y" fitting left to where it touches the wall and then connect your table saw hose angled down the wall and across to the table saw. Just a thought I had hope this helps!!

I mounted my HF Dust Collector on outside wall and vented it directly out through the wall. Thanks for the great idea of rotating the housing and the heads up on the backwards threads.. Wish you would have mentioned that I needed a Pulley Puller to remove the impeller... Lol .. Maybe you didn't need one?? I enjoy all your Videos.. Thanks & Keep up the good work..

Looks great! I'm glad you showed the "through the wall" fitting. Mine will be outside of the shop as well. Could you just rotate the 'Y' fitting to the left a little bit so you can fit the broom closer to the floor sweep? Maybe that would give you more clearance.
