Great video, Thanks for sharing. Just FYI, On your 1/8-27 NPT fittings for the caliper the "NPT" stands for National Pipe Thread and they are tapered threads. The other end that your flex line attaches to is a -3 AN fitting and has a 3/8-24 standard straight thread for 3/16" tube and -4 AN fitting is a 7/16-20 standard straight thread for 1/4" tube. The AN stands for ARMY/NAVY which is a military aerospace fitting with a 37 degree angle for the sealing surface, It is used in aircraft and now in hot rod applications. Just a little info someone might want to know.

I don’t think your supposed to put thread tape on flare fittings, only NPT fittings... npt fittings seal at the threads, flare fittings seal at the flare, fluid shouldn’t be getting to the threads
@classicrewind2715
@classicrewind2715 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. you are right. The flare is supposed to seal the connection. I installed the fitting on the caliper 1/8-27 (National Pipe Thread) NPT. I want to make sure it properly sealed. So as a added precaution, I used thread tape everywhere. Thanks watching the video I hope you enjoyed it. All the best.

Classic Rewind I’m not bashing you I appreciate your whole build been watching the whole thing, but I don’t know why willwood decided to use npt threads on the calipers, a banjo fitting would be safer in my opinion, I would think with the leverage from that elbow and constant movement and vibration from turning and suspension travel might loosen that fitting up

I understand. I appreciate you watching my build and thank you.. The issue that I have with the Wilwood caliper is. They purposely make that 27 thread. I search the internet and I cannot find anyone that sells that fitting. So you have to buy it through Wilwood only. When I was screwing that part into the caliper it did not feel like a smooth seat, so I used thread tape. I used 14 inch flex lines in the rear and in the front calipers. I hope this explains it a little better. Again thank you so much for watching my video and following my build!! All the best my friend

@classicrewind2715
@classicrewind2715 Жыл бұрын
It's funny you ask that question. Every time I do a build that question comes up. Wilwood recommends it because it's disc brakes all the way around and the original proportioning valve is set up for drum brakes. Unless the proportioning valve is set up for disc brakes. There is a lot of questions regarding that setup. when I build the GTO, I am going to eliminate the proportioning valve and I am going to put a adjustable proportioning valve near the master cylinder. I hope this helps. All the best

Looks great Harry, couple of questions. I see your distribution block is down on frame, mine is relocated to the firewall under master cylinder. Also, I noticed in video you have ratchet straps around rear. Did you use them to compress rear springs to ride height? If so, did you then tighten rear control arm bolts. My Chevelle says this dimension should be 5 inches from top of axle to bottom of frame. Thanks
@classicrewind2715

Hi Wayne. No, my distribution box is on the frame that's where it was before I removed it. It is also like that on my Chevelle. I don't know why yours is under the master cylinder. For the ratchet straps. I just used them so I could lift the rear and attach it to the frame without jacks. I suspended it from the ceiling in my shop. I adjusted the rear to the frame before I tightened all the bolts. I hope this helps all the best

@classicrewind2715
@classicrewind2715 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, look up brake distribution block for 68 Cutlass. If you are using original stock drum brakes you should not have a problem , all the parts stores should have them. Napa , AutoZone if you're looking for a proportioning valve for disc brakes that might be a little more difficult. Only certain cars had disc front drum rear brakes. My 68 SS Chevelle has disk brakes the proportioning valve is the same as my GTO that was all drum front and rear. I hope this helps. All the best

@@christiansaco8998 They might have given you the wrong one. Does it look similar to your old one ? @classicrewind2715
@classicrewind2715 3 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. I've done some research. I cannot use that distribution box, Because I went all disc brakes. If I use that distribution box there's going to be 2 lb of pressure on the rear brakes which will cause it to lock up prematurely. I will have to get a proportioning valve. Therefore I am going to purchase a new hydraulic booster with proportioning valve. I will be making a video of that when I'm at that point. All the Best.
