We live in a large home in North San Diego. We did our solar ourselves (engineers) and were able to have it ground mounted as we have the space. It made it super easy. We researched and researched and studied '"solar". We discovered Renogy and our entire home runs off Renogy 310Watt panels X 12. They are the best for the money with excellent and consistent quality and you get real customer support as well. We have two of the inverters you have that we use in our garage and shop running off our solar. We have AGM batteries that we will replace with LiFePO when they wear out. We would recommend anyone using solar to go Renogy as the panels are fantastic and they have so much other solar components you need all from the same company.

I would like the link or description of your big nutrivet tool you used on the gimble for the oven.

All I can suggest is to rig a pair of ohshit lines to each panel in case the bracket fails or comes unscrewed. That second side - if the screw backs-out, it will open to the underside and fall right off. Edit: Ooohhh...Pure Sine Wave inverter. That Renogy stuff seems really top-notch.

I’ve used several Renogy products, they are a good value. However keep in mind the frames of newer inexpensive solar panels aren’t nearly as rigid as the ones from say thirty years ago, so it’s helpful to stay with smaller units which are relatively stronger. Our schooner had 400 watts total power.

James re those plastic clamping brackets at 5:30. I think you would be happier with Stainless Steel brackets , they are similar the 360 deg type you used on the leg. They would totally encircle the 1 inch SS side rail and you could bolt the 2nd part to the Aluminium flat bar on the solar panels. You should be able to purchase them at any marine chandlery… I think they call them “top slides” or “jaw slides” I think all Stainless hardware would be much stronger. Just trying to help… Keep up the great work!

Good stuff. I think I'd mount an inverter that cool looking on the wall so I can look at it. Smart of Renergy to sponsor you bro. You have a lot of credibility. Warning: I bought a cheap $100 induction burner off Amazon. It's junk. It just burns a ring in my pan - only heating in about a 6" diameter circle. I can't even quickly scramble eggs without burning them. So ask around and probably spend a little more money. (The burner is great for boiling water - but that's all.) I'd love to get a knowledgeable recommendation for a good induction burner. Inverters. I've got two for my gas cars, both claim to be full sine no interference, but they make the mouse and track pads on my MacBook Pros jump all over the place. I can type and with effort move the cursor, but I can't possible draw. And the MacBook doesn't have to be plugged in for this to happen. That would always be my first test with any inverter. The solution is charge up the laptop, then turn off the inverter while doing anything requiring precision. Ideally of course would be no interference. Not sure if there are any inverters without this issue - I suspect there must be. (The best vehicle charging for a MacBook (USB-C), which would work on a boat, is the Belkin 'cigarette lighter' adapter. It's got higher wattage than anything like it and zero interference. I got it from Apple, but I'm not sure if they sell them anymore. ) As a back-up stove I'd get a two burner Coleman, some 1 pound bottles (and the re-fill adapter. Refilling them from a larger tank - on someone else's boat.... is dead simple, quick and safe. (Maybe you want to cook up something stinky outside the cabin.) The thing about Induction in the gallery and a propane stove as a back up, is it's a lot easier to use the Coleman on the back deck, or on the beach than it would be with induction. Fair winds.
@SailorJames2 жыл бұрын
Just a quick question, the pan you are using is made for induction right?
@WillN2Go12 жыл бұрын
@@SailorJames Carbon steel - best pan I've ever owned. I also tried it with a much heavier and thicker cast iron pan. Nope - still the burnt ring. I want to try a better induction burner - but I can't find a clear good recommendation (I haven't put enough effort into it yet.) Also here are very high end induction ranges for kitchens that have been sold for years - so my problem with the cheap burner must not exist in the better units. So my beef is not with the system, it's just that the low end units seem to be a waste of time. Also, it's an induction coil - it wouldn't be all at all difficult to make it into any shape and area. I might bring my pan and a couple of eggs to the store. Just crack one, mix it up and cover the bottom of the pan - see what the unit does. And if energy is an issue? To boil water I'd now always go electric, a kettle or even that crappy induction. Really fast and efficient.

If the panels weren't sponsored, what is the upside to going with two 200 watt panels vs. four 100watt panels? More panels need more brackets and wiring but better redundancy if one breaks?
@SailorJames2 жыл бұрын
The main set back / limitation for me is simply available space. Two side by side 100watt panels won’t fit on my rail but you are correct about the redundancy benefits

DO NOT use the supplied battery to inverter cables. They are extremely under rated for the current draw and have no gauge or rating written or stamped on insulation. They are clearly too thin. I have 3000W Renogy inverter. I bought one foot (30cm) length 4/0 AWG. Same goes for other inverters.
