Major props and huge respect for doing this yourselves (with supervision). I bought the gears and gear oil (12 qrts) back when Nitro was running a 19% discount and free shipping, then found a local shop for install, ($920) I think all in it was $2,300. No regrets on the re-gear, enjoy driving the truck now!

How did you know what size shim to put under the pinion bearing. If you never pulled the bearing off the old pinion

@300zxdriver
@300zxdriver 4 жыл бұрын
Did you have to play with shims to get pattern right? Also what about backlash? You skimmed over the most important part of a gear change.
@fotomotoxxiii
@fotomotoxxiii 4 жыл бұрын
They didn't do that part, their friend did.
@BrosFOURRSpeed
@BrosFOURRSpeed 4 жыл бұрын
Only the rear diff had shims and the kit is designed to re use the stock shims, so nothing has to be changed there. Also the backlash wasn't changed either, if you were doing a full rebuild, that would be an important measurement. I know I skipped it, but with schedules on getting that part done, it didn't workout unfortunately.

Gonna sound dumb will this make the truck alittle more quick? Or is this more for crawling
@BrosFOURRSpeed

It actually lowered the top speed but not how quick it gets up and moves, so doesn’t change that. I haven’t noticed a difference offroad but I’m sure there is a slight difference. Mainly helps turn the larger tires better.

@BrosFOURRSpeed
@BrosFOURRSpeed 2 жыл бұрын
I get 15.5 mpg with my 34's and the regear. The regear isn't intended to help or improve mpg at all. It helps with the gearing and improves the smoothness along with helping turn larger tires. I thought it would help with mpg, but it doesn't. Also my stock tacoma got around 22, so not sure why your number is so low.

I'm sure I said that in the video, but it will help the auto with hunting for gears. My truck hardly used 6th because of how Toyota designed that and now I can run 6th gear on the highway and it doesn't constantly downshift.

The tacoma has a 6 speed and 6th is basically an overdrive gear, but Toyota didn't design it too well because most 3rd gen Tacomas don't use it. Unless you are going down the highway at 70 mph and going downhill, it won't shift into 6th. I'll be making a video driving the truck and explaining all of that!!
