I had installed a 3" add a leaf RC lift in my white '96 XJ. Now, years later I have swapped lift into a green '95 XJ. I ended up buying full 3" leaf packs from RC for install to the 95. These springs have a shim that seems to be affecting driveline vibration. Installed correctly as shipped from RC with shim (front < rear), the diff angle is in line with driveshaft but not equal to output shaft and have a vibration/shudder that starts around 20-30 mph. I have seen videos of removing this shim or even turning it around (front > rear). Right now I have shim removed. Rear diff. angle to output shaft angles are better but still have some vibration, enough that I don't want to drive it on the highway. There was no vibration prior to lift install. The leaf springs part # 8047 did seem shorter than OE, had to really force rear shackle forward, to line up. The original install in the white '96 with add-a-leaf had no such issues, not even alignment. I have installed into the green '95 with new control arms. The vibration is definitely coming from the rear. Any ideas? Any experience with this correcting? I've heard people post: transfer case drop, double cardan drive shaft, etc. Do I need to determine needed rear diff angle and somehow shim under spring pack correct angle? Thanks!

Oh sure, now I see your comment. I’ve heard really bad things about RC so I went with IRO 3” (3.5” with new rear leafs) long arm kit with their OTK 5/8 steering upgrade. Going on a 97 2-door. Now I’m wishing I had gone cheaper lol. I’m going to fit 35s.

I have the same car in Egypt. But yours is super clean. I want to start rebuilding the suspension to a legit 3-4” lift and I need guidance on the parts I won’t be able to buy the parts all at once since I’ll have to import everything to Egypt (super costly) My car is lifted 3.5” but more of a DIY thing by the previous owner with 31” tires: Teflon lift kits for the front shocks Jeep Wrangler shocks Added 1 leaf for the rear springs (no shackles) Rubicon lower control arms No slip yoke eliminator What do you think I should do? Just got my xj back after lift install. Done by professional. OME kit. Not cheap but I love my jeep. I'm thinking I made a big mistake. It looks like a 70's jacked in the back. Lift raised front only slightly. Back like 3'' My fault for not telling them to remove a leaf maybe? But why would OME make a kit like that? What a surprise I got driveshaft bind, grinding and vibration. I liked the idea of new springs and good shocks. But if I could do it over I would listen to my mechanic and keep her stock. Idk if dropping one of those leafs will make things better but this ain't cool.

Sir, My oldest one got spoiled and was given her "want" car when we got her a 2001 xj limited 4x4 for her 16th. I read up all about these vehicles as I am NOT a jeep guy what so ever. I learned about most of the common problems and have inspected/fixed accordingly over the last year. I have read up on the 0331 head issues as well. She now wants to lift this thing 🤕so...is a simple 4" lift on 31" tires the best combo? She wants 33" tires...The jeep is super super clean...so I don't want rubbing, death wobble, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@tanner6538 Жыл бұрын
Hey. I don’t know if you’re still considering a lift or if you already did it, but for a teenager it might make sense to stick to a 3” lift or less. Beyond 3” you start to get into needing driveline alterations (sye, hack n tap, new driveshafts, etc.) and it can go from a $300 weekend project to a multi-weekend, research-heavy, $2,500 ordeal with tires. Curious what you end up deciding!

My self personally I can't knock Rough Country products. Their technology is improving as time goes on. They do sell many parts and for more affordable price. And you always expect Champaign quality if you can barely afford a beer budget right! I more prefer Rubicon express, or Rusty's off road. But after a afternoon of wheeling you would still like to have enough money in your pocket for some dinner.
@francisbrackney20613 жыл бұрын
I watched a video from Rough Country, that shows them installing a 3" lift on a XJ. They were showing it with front lower control arms, front sway bar frame extension brackets, and complete rear leaf spring sets. Was the kit your friend purchased from Rough Country there super economy XJ kit? Or did he select his own parts for the lift and purchase them separately to make his own lift kit?
