I just purchased some Bilstein 5165 and 5160 series remote reservoir shocks. I didn't realize they did not have the serviceable Schrader valve on the reservoir caps. This is a tutorial on how to install them.

I thought that was pretty good. I remember driving my first Bilstein shocks back in '76. Amazing. I wish i could get them for my '05 Prius. And that i could afford them.

They are sorta... Remember you're on a shared platform. I found some stuff for my gen 3 prius, but had to hunt based on size not model

Hi, have you by any chance had to add more oil to the bilstein 5160 shock? My rear 5160¨s leaked through the hose fitting and lost lots of the oil. brand new installed... unfortunatelly im in Colombia and cant ship em back to the us for a replacement.

This seems like an excellent mod for billstiens. I have a set on my chevy 2500hd with the reservoirs im def planning on doing this mod. Does anyone know if theres someplace i can go to, to have the nitrogen filled as opposed to buying a charging kit? Anyway great video right to the point no need to skip forward through any part of it. Thank you sir!

Prolly not gonna reply but have you played with psi to change dampening characteristics?

Is the valving inside the shock or the resivor? How much adjustment do you get with this? How much was the power tank for the nitrogen?

Hey, was wondering if you fiddled with the shaft seal while having the pressure out, the cap there looks like the 5100s that I have and I want to figure out if it is removable without destruction to pipe it to some old bilsteins and shove the gas divider in them to make them into remotes. Also to change the shimstack around a bit.

Hey man I like the video and you’re quite skilled. Just curious, how come you didn’t go for the Fox Shocks with remote reservoir that already has shrader valve?

Probably because Bilstein is cheaper and probably higher quality.

Hey man I have a set of 5160 on a tj one of the shock fittings came loose and all the fluid leaked out was wondering what the depth of the floating piston is. Plan to pull the shock out let the nitrogen out add fluid to c if it would push the piston to the right position than put a Schrader valve on the end and refill the nitrogen do u think this would work can’t find any were that will rebuild it and I love these shocks

hello everyone, does anyone know the site to purchase parts for repairing the blistein kit?

any thoughts on putting in any sort of adjustment valve? i know parts can be bought for ohlins canisters and they have several adjustable ones. i'm just spitballing here honestly but am incredibly interested in having compression adjustable bilsteins

Will Young don't know a lot about these shocks. I have a power wagon with significantly softer springs than a stock gas engine ram. Would doing this help or is it more valving than gas pressure?

What shrader valve have you used?
@coloradoinsanity7 жыл бұрын
svvani prices are always changing on them so I source them from the place with the best deal. Do a Google search for the 1/8" NPT schrader and usually you can find them around 5$ each. just check their pressure rating and sometimes you can call and get a deal when buying in multiples of 4+

coloradoinsanity Does it need to be with O ring?
@coloradoinsanity7 жыл бұрын
svvani no. if you get the oring style you would have to have the surface machined for an oring groove. Just get the standard style with a good thread sealer.

Can I send you a set to do for me?

lb lewis Hey man, sorry but I don't have insurance so if something were to happen after I did the work I would personally be liable. I'm happy to answer any questions related to it though.

www.amazon.com/Power-Tank-NIT-0110-Nitrogen-Regulator/dp/B007ZG86XA A bit pricey but excellent quality. Worth every penny.
