Well said! So true, these builds aren't easy. So many things to balance, building it is only half of the show. Cash flows to fund it, material procurement, finding time and energy while working a full time job. 😅

Nice. I would do the whole roof in ice and water too. Doesn't cost a whole lot more in the grand scheme of things and seals the whole roof up. Cheap insurance against leaks.

Next time, use rubber gaskets on the nails going thru the flashing. It will prevent water from wicking down the nails and will remain waterproof for years. Weather and sun degrade caulking!😊😊😊

With low pitch under your shingles, I fear that your decking will wick moisture, develop mushy spots and then start leaking. I’d have probably used metal roofing instead.
@curtcoltharp371910 ай бұрын
I built a house around an existing structure 30 years ago that had a low pitch with wafer board deck and had to re-do it later as I lived in it and saw the leaks. I’m sure that wafer board is ok on steeper pitch but if I built a new structure, I’d spend extra and go plywood to start with. Extra here and extra there adds up on a project quickly.

When you are on the roof you are an accident waiting to happen. ALL those loose tools, hammer, knife , speed square, calk gun. If you step on one of them you are headed for a nasty fall off the roof. Maybe you should consider adding a wheel chair ramp!

No reason to _ever_ see the step flashing.... 😕 Also, next time do yourself a favor and only nail one leg of the steps to the roof deck. When it comes time to replace the shingles you can shift them around to get the new ones on without removing the whole skylight.

@@devonloerop You're doing well for a young guy without a background in the trades, 👍 I just found your channel and enjoy that you dig right in to making a long term investment. When going up the sides with steps just keep them 6mm or so above the bottom edge of the shingle, so they're hidden. You don't need to try to 'use up' the whole length of the flashing. (Velux gives you enough for 5" shingle exposure)

You're doing an awesome job.....but you didn't have to stagger the skylight flashing like that(flashing,shingle,flashing,shingle).You should have nailed the flashing as one continuous run then laid the shingles over the top.Keep up the good work.
