First of all thank you for posting this video. You took a lot of the fear out of installing these Singular Motorsports vents. We have a member of our club in Phoenix with these and they look great. Two suggestions for anyone else installing these vents. 1.) Mask everything with plastic drop cloth to keep metal filings off of the paint. 2.) Think about using fancy bolts, nuts and washers. You can control the pressure when tightening down the vents to prevent aluminum hood warpage. Overall a very nice video and nice outcome!! Jeff Morris President, Sahuaro Miata club

Looks fantastic. You are amazingly brave, I would have chopped my hood to pieces. Thanks for all the great videos!

Can’t believe you did this 5 years ago. Just ordered them. Any long term review updates or advice?

I think you did a great job, they look the part too, one reason that keeps from doing the same hood vents, is water going into the part of the engine compartment where the ECM sits, the place for the ECM should’ve been somewhere inside the footwell on the passenger side.

Yeah I did think of that. I read that others didnt have any issues but time will tell. Thanks for the comment!

If i tracked my car this would be a sweet upgrade. I also like that its subtle and not flashy like other vents ive seen on cars.

I was a little worried it would be too much but came out looking great.

Hello. Revisiting this. Quick question. You mentioned you weren't sure what to do to cut the corners out, but then it skips to you taking the cut panels out. What did you end up using/doing to cut the corners out? Thanks.

Funny I’m thinking about these too ... are you worried about rain getting in ? Do they come with trays or covers ?
@ColoredinLight6 жыл бұрын
no trays or covers, i did read somewhere that other people had them and did not have any issues with rain

We once had a nice little FIAT 128 3p which had air vents in the hood and looked very sporty. After heavy rain it didn't want to start, so I investigated. The air vents were located over plastic mouldings in the engine bay fitted with rubber seals. If the seal was pushed out of shape, rainwater could run along the underside of the hood and drip from a stiffening rib. The stiffening rib was directly over the distributor! Therefore no spark. It's worth checking. There's nothing worse than being stuck at work with a dead car after everyone went home. I'm glad you like the louvres so much, Jackson! All the best, Rob

Some paint on the raw metal under the rubber liner may help reduce rust in the long run
@RobWhittlestone6 жыл бұрын
Agree. Specifically, rust prevention paint applied to any de-greased bare steel to create a waterproof & airtight coating, followed up with Waxoyl or similar. This is the process I adopted for the hole in the *trunk* of my NA for the trunk light switch. I had years of rust-proof service. Is the hood of the NC steel or aluminium? I think my NA was aluminium and my 2009 NCFL is steel.

I noticed this in the sunlight. I may take some time to put a layer of paint down.

It’s an aluminum hood. It won’t rust

It looks freaking awesome I’m just still wondering about the rain? Would it damage anything?

Thanks! I washed the car the day after install and nothing seemed bad. I dont think it will hurt anything.

Looks SICK !! Do they do a good job venting hot air out of engine bay ?
@ColoredinLight6 жыл бұрын
I want to get a little temperature reader to see but it's been so hot in texas the last couple days since install it's hard to tell. The fins do get pretty hot after driving, the front feels a little more stable too like less pressure in the engine bay

Hey, man, I was reading the install instructions and I noticed it said to trim extra material from the hood if you’re using the trim that came with the kit. It looks like you cut right along the template. Is it not that imperative to give it the extra 1/8” or whatever it calls for?
@ColoredinLight4 жыл бұрын
I really didnt have much issue. It was a tight fit so you could definitely cut a little extra though.

Colored in Light awesome. I just placed my order. Figured it would make a good quarantine project. Thanks for getting back to me, brother. I love your stuff.

Hey have you ever considered a tune from the OpenFlash Tablet instead of ECUtech?
@ColoredinLight6 жыл бұрын
Ecutek was my first choice considering the features. Openflash does not include things like launch control, etc.

does the engine bay stay protected from rain
@ColoredinLight3 жыл бұрын
Certainly not. But do you think your engine stays dry in the rain otherwise?
@garrydring9493 жыл бұрын
@@ColoredinLight No need to be prickly, just asking as ive seen other ones with a plastic cover that can be removed under the hood. Dont fancy leaving the engine bay exposed to the elements especially over the top of the ECU and next to the fuse box, ive never had rain ingress into the engine bay so dont know what you mean with your second point.
@ColoredinLight3 жыл бұрын
When driving in the rain, water gets into the engine bay even without hood vents. I've driven the car multiple times in heavy rain, sat in the parking lot in heavy rain and never had an issue.

Sorry, but I think this looks awful. Especially the rivets. Wouldn’t want rain on my engine. To each their own. Thanks for sharing and hope it was worth it.
