Swivels definitely helped on a couple of them, after doing them a second time when I installed my cam I found even going down to a 1/4” drive ratchet and 1/4” drive socket saved a fair bit of space too that made some spaces more manageable to tighten. Awesome video! Is there a difference in ground clearance from the stock setup to the long tube exhaust? Thank you
@TrackPackRT4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. The headers sit lower than the stock manifolds do at the collector but that pretty much just lines up where your mid pipes would be anyway. I did scrape a few times going over some large speed bumps but that scrapage was back where the high flow cats connected to the cat back exhaust and I realized it was the bolt up clamps that were supplied with the kit. I had the ears of the clamps facing down as initially it was easiest to bolt them that way. After that I rotated them so they were parallel with the ground and higher than the bottom of the exhaust pipe anyways and haven’t had a scrape since.

Glad to hear, thanks for the kind words! The gains are huge with long tubes, I feel like it should be everyones first mod on their Challenger. It makes it feel like a totally different car, pulls really hard and sounds amazing! Didn't try without a tune, I made sure I had one done right away. If you don't have a tune with headers your knock sensor will mistake the sound of the headers for detonation and start pulling timing negating the gains you made and throwing a code. I'd say give it a shot, you can definitely do it yourself!

@@craigslue I know the Kooks fit differently for sure and I'd imagine JBA's do too so I can't comment on them specifically. I'm pretty sure mine were made in the US, got them off the speedlogix site I believe. I just thought it was strange that in the Stainless Works instructions it was telling me to do a bunch of steps that we unnecessary to do. Swivels are lifesavers for doing headers! I had swivels, 5 different length extensions, 2 different length 13mm deep sockets, 13 and 10 mm speedwrenches and an extendable magnet which were pretty much must haves for the install!
@craigslue5 жыл бұрын
BTW did I mention I like your intro music, well I do. Looks like Speedlogix list the budget SW headers under Stainless Power SHM64HDROR and the USA made as Stainless Works HM64HDROR. No dis intended on your purchase or install. I personally would probably go with the cheaper headers because well, I'm cheap or should I say budget minded within reason. I guess if I was really cheap I would go with knockoff ebay headers but I'm not that cheap. I believe in doing headers only one time! All things being equal even exact parts and cars will have variances and not all will have the same experience and of course not all have the same skills or the ability to hold their tongue just right! I'm sure no doubt you had plenty of tools to accomplish the task otherwise you wouldn't have. Just saying the swivel/flex ratchet type wrenches are a lifesaver when doing headers or many other jobs. Get them ceramic coated, that’s what I did. Ceramic coatings will help keep the heat in the header and out of the engine bay.
@JeremyMichaelJordanDIY5 жыл бұрын
Hey man, what device do you have there that you are tuning it with? Did you just send it off to that site and they do it?
@TrackPackRT5 жыл бұрын
It's an old Diablo tuner. Got it in 2009, the new ones are much sleeker. When doing a remote tune you do some data logging with the device which records what ever parameters you choose. You then send those files to your tuner and he makes some adjustments and sends you a tune which you download into your car.

Did your Engine light on or passed smog I’m looking forward to install the same header
@TrackPackRT4 жыл бұрын
It never tripped an check engine light but I got it tuned immediately after the headers went on. We don't have smog testing here in Alberta but I'm guessing if you're in an area with strict emissions testing it would be worth looking into if these headers would be legal or not in your area. I do have the high flow cats on my setup and I highly recommend them!

Did you have to remove anything in order to get access to there or is it straight unbolt and bolt right up?
@TrackPackRT3 жыл бұрын
You have to take out the plastic splash guard under the car, that was about it. The install is really straight forward, it's just the limited access that makes it a difficult one. Definitely do-able, I've done it twice now, you just have to be really patient and sometimes a little creative in which angle you attack some of the bolts.

I've been debating on tackling putting on headers on my 21 challenger. I also found out if you have a 2015 or higher that you half to get the PCM unlocked for a tune. Is this true?

That is definitely true. Not a huge deal but it does add extra costs to any modding you want to do unfortunately.

Did you have enough room to put a torque wrench on the header bolts?
@TrackPackRT5 жыл бұрын
Definitely not. I'm sure I could've tried harder with more swivels ect, but I'm pretty sure a sharp angle with a swivel will give you an inaccurate reading with a torque wrench anyway. Just made sure they were nice and tight, checked for leaks on startup and called it good.

How’d you get the top middle bolts on the passenger side? I’m stuck there with my install rn
@TrackPackRT7 ай бұрын
Don’t remember specifically, but I know I had 2 different length deep sockets and swivels. Also if it helps grabbing a quarter inch ratchet and socket will save you some space. Some of them you can get from the top as well if that’s easier for you.
@McRoadPVP4 жыл бұрын
Would this be a similar setup on a 2018 challenger rt? Im putting on Hellcat headers and a catless midpipe. Was wondering how long installation would be because shops are saying 8+ hours of labor
@TrackPackRT4 жыл бұрын
Yep they aren’t wrong. After you’ve done it a few times I’m sure you could get it a little faster, maybe shave an hour off, but expect to spend 8-10 hrs on it if you can easily get your manifold bolts off. If they’re rusted bad it could be on the heavier side of 10 hrs. It doesn’t really matter either if they’re shorty, long tube or just replacing the stock manifolds, the bolts are equally as hard to access for the most part, they’d be close to the same install time.

If you don't mind let me know which of the best headers to install long tube or short to which one give the most horsepower which one better for the five seven
@TrackPackRT3 жыл бұрын
I can’t think of too many reasons to go shorties over long tubes. Long tubes make quite a bit more power and the argument about shorties being better for low end torque is kinda bs. When you put long tubes on a stock 5.7 immediately it almost feels like another car, huge difference.

debating on doing the stainless works headers on my 2011 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi. Did you notice much of a difference in power and sound?
@TrackPackRT4 жыл бұрын
Night and day different. It literally felt like a different car after that. I've dropped .6 seconds so far in the quarter mile (that was traction limited, I just cured my wheel hop so it will likely work out to be more than that if the tracks ever re-open), and sound the is great! My headers are going into the stock catback and it still made a big difference in sound.

How did you get the top header bolt on cylinder #4. That is a tight fit to even try to start it
@TrackPackRT3 жыл бұрын
I don't remember now, but there were definitely some crappy spots to get at. I had various sized deep sockets, swivels and extensions. After I had done it a second time when I took the heads off during my cam install it dawned on me I could've also saved some space on some of the bolts by going down to a quarter inch drive ratchet and socket which might have helped me on a few of the tougher bolts. Some of them you just have to be creative. There's also bolts that you can try to ether get from above or down below depending on what works better for your reach or how skinny your arms/hands are.

Hey man great job, did you use your stock manifold gaskets and heat shield with those, or just re used the heat shield is what I noticed?
@TrackPackRT5 жыл бұрын
The heat sheilds can't be re-used as the shape doesn't work with the headers. I did buy a new set of factory metal gaskets though as only silicone came with the kit which I wouldn't trust to make a proper seal by itself.

Does long tube headers require a tune for a 2015 charger r/t 5.7?
@TrackPackRT11 ай бұрын
Yep. If you don’t tune for them the sound of the cylinders firing in the long tubes will trigger the knock sensors and the car will pull timing, negating power gains you would make from the better exhaust flow.

@TrackPackRTАй бұрын
The passenger side is the difficult one. I know I had 2 different length deep sockets, a regular socket, and 3 different sized extensions to get in tight spots at different angles. One thing that could help is to consider grabbing a 1/4” drive ratchet and socket because they often are smaller and take up less space, which could give you access you can’t fit with a 3/8 drive. Keep going, it takes patience but you’ll get it done!
@Moour33315 жыл бұрын
did you have to lift the motor up ?
@TrackPackRT5 жыл бұрын
Nope not at all. Didn't touch the motor mounts. Didn't find them to be in the way at all. One bolt on the passenger side is a little tight, but it didn't take to much effort to get it out anyway. Less effort and time than jacking up the whole motor and removing the motor mounts.
