Excellent video Kirk,lovely to see your family all helping out. My son is still at school full time but learned early how to clean buckets and tools and how to prep,bond and mix the correct way. I stumbled upon this video while looking for one of your others. You and your lovely wife must be really proud of all those kids. It certainly seems as though you're teaching them all the value of hard work and pride of a job well done - not to mention the benefit of passing done a trade and tradition. I'm confident all your kids are proud of you. Now I'm off to find that video I was looking for about plastering over concrete block walls - I'm going to practice on a garage my wife's grandfather built in the early 40s when he came to America from Italy. Howdy Miles from Italy, my mom was also from Italy, she left was she was about 22 years old, during that nasty war, she would tell us horror stories about the troops coming down her streets telling which race to get thier arses indoors and who to come out, little wonder she jumped at the chance to leave when an American soldier asked her to return home with him. great videos, been doing stucco for like 20 years, nice to learn better ways of doing stuff keep up the great work and. would like to see how you deal with going over rock/glass stucco. with out removing it.

Howdy Doc Canada, alway nice to hear from my fellow plasterers, I Have only applied the rock/glass, and shells aggregates to one home. Here in the U.S. it's no wheres near as popular as in the UK. If I were to go over it as most of these finishes can't be repaired unless you spend forever trying to find all the same aggregates. I would simply pressure wash, apply a bonding agent and skim coat with a depth that hides the highest aggregate, Easy peasy lemon squeasy. cheers, Kirk and Jason’s sand and cement rendering videos

Kirk I enjoy the videos. I'm a plasterer here in Idaho. When I started hoddying we only did stucco. I notice you don't rod the walls but Darby them. And you use corner aid/rite instead or corner bead and run lines down them . My boss says that a California thing. Oh and that skinny scaffold my hell I've only been one a few jobs with them and it really makes me appreciate a frames . Still.. I dig it and it's all preference I suppose. My wife gives me hell about watching plastering videos like don't you get enough of that at work for the last 13 years. Lol.. anyways always enjoy the videos and the humor.. that's what gets us through the days. All the plasters I have met have def been some characters

Howdy Thomas, all stucco homes and even concrete walkways eventually crack, this has little to do with applied stucco but to natural ground movement, Example, rain for a week will lift most homes and sidewalks, when drier conditions occur thus settling/movement there will be hairline cracks, plus there are about 20 other solid reasons for cracking that has nothing to do with application. Thanks for the videos and teaching. Question. When you are using the hand float, are you doing this in the scratch or the brown? If it is the scratch, then do you scratch it after you float it? Thanks again.

Evening Robert dude, a hard rubber float is used to compact the brown coat. Evening John, yes I tried many in fact I used to own a Tommy gun when I had a crew of 15 men. They are a lot of work, and I prefer to apply by hand, personally.
