Hello, ladies and gentlemen. In this video, we are doing some stucco structural maintenance by repairing this unsightly buckling stucco at the front of this home,
I was asked my opinion of what to do, tear it all off, or repair it as best as possible. So, naturally, I said to hire a GC, tear it all off, rebuild the foundation, reconstruct the wood wall, then re-stucco. He said I can’t afford that work. What is another option?
In this video, we show the alternative option.
And that is what I’m doing, a temporary repair.
The concrete foundation is separated from the stucco wall or substrate.
Which of becoming wider each season because it’s allowing rainwater intrusion.
We, like others, are only as good as what we have to work with.
What we’re doing can be made to look good for quite a while.
Perhaps even ten or twenty years or more, it is quite possible.
The work depends on the amount of ground movement, not my corrections.
Repairs like this make my day, as they often require a lot of stucco knowledge to correct this structural difference. It definitely makes the repair I’m doing much more enjoyable.
Keep the cracks caulked to prevent rainwater from entering. Unfortunately, more water enters each season, which is not good, so take some time out and caulk those cracks.
Movement or vibrations to stucco or concrete are not good, but they are typical.
Often, hairline or large stress cracks occur due to settling.
With stucco, the slightest movement and or vibrations cause hairline cracks.
Often this does not affect the integrity of the waterproofing membrane. However, when allowed to get to this stage, it’s either tear into the wall and correct it all or do the best to prevent future water intrusion and help it look as decent as possible because it is still in the front of your house.
Remember, any stucco home movement is like Kryptonite to Superman, which is not good.
But it's completely normal.
We were using a Portland-based stucco with three times the sand for every one part of Portland cement. I added Lumnite to accelerate the stucco.
As a topcoat, we used a La Habra finish coat that matches the texture as closely as possible.

Ive watched about 200 videos from the giordano plastering tutorials. Im a painter by trade. I moved from the midwest where stucco just hasnt been done. These videos have been a lifeline to remain profitable. I wouldnt call myself a true plaster, but i have some hours behind the trowel now, and all the stuff ive learned from this channel i put to use daily. The giordano plastering bible is one of the best series on youtube.

Super helpful. I recently removed a balcony with rails that were attached to the stucco. It left a couple of large holes in the surface stucco that I need to repair before I put in my new railing. @@keinrichsloft Hello my friend, the material, we useIt’st’s regular Portland cement mixed with sand; we added an accelerator called luminite to set the stucco fast. Then when set, I used a La Habra color coat finish material to match the existing finish that’s what was originally used.🍾

Yeah you can't patch anything in 100 % perfect when it's got a textured finish and kirk explained this at the beginning His technics are so similar to mine I'm English and 40 years in , the sponge float is a great edition to the armory but the speed scim is the best invention the trade has seen since the hawke trowel and power mixer

Thank you for all of the information. I am in the process of repairing the stucco on my cinder block home. It is 60 plus years. I repaired the cracks first with a tuck point blade and used rapid set mortar and diamond wall with fibers to fill the cracks. I took off all of the bad stucco and bad repairs with a hammer drill and a pressure washer. I then used eifs fiberglass mesh set in omega dry bond to put a skim coat on the walls to level out. I am putting omega Akroflex as a finish coat. Will the finish show differently on a cold joint and is there a way to minimize the difference? Keep em coming. You should have your own reality show, very entertaining as well as informative...

Morning s quin, excellent question, most folks don't know or care, but your new stucco should cure, as when base coats are newly applied it has a high alkalinity of about pH 14, if you allow it to cure for a couple of weeks this will helps avoiding the bleeding or ghosting that some folks get because of painting or finishing to soon. Boring stuff to learn about, but this is a main cause of ghosting. (seeing the outline of the existing patchwork) Cheers. Kirk giordano Plastering

Evening Jody, I don't care for cold weather at all. I have applied stucco while it was snowing before but was with friends working on a 400-foot wall. We were having fun and laughing as we were working so fast, we took our shirts off and you could see the steam from our bodies rising off our skin. However, when we stopped for more than 10 minutes, it got super cold again. It was, keep working or freeze one's arse off. Bringing peace, love, and harmony back to the world of plastering. Hello adel al tourah, absolutely, this is a really simple technique that we use when a corner is a bit crooked or there is no corner at all, I will do this soon with out using a corner to show it's effectiveness, Good suggestion, best wishes my friend on the other side of the world, Cheers, kirk giordano

Kirk I watched you for years and i fewl like im a pro. Only in my little mind but I did try to apply the skill and the mud just slides of the trowel and lands on the ground 😅. However I'm able to get it on the wall. I'm making it a bit soupy so i dont work hard. I think my trowel is stainless steel maybe the wrong trowel.
