To Paul@FabRats. Your public acknowledgement in your last video about losing your pal and father has had a very positive effect on your outlook and it shows in this video. You don't ever get over losing a loved one, hell, I lost my Dad 37 years ago and I still miss him every day. You do learn to deal with it and it appears to me you're doing well. Do not ever let him go, our loved ones live forever in our memories. Best wishes, Paul and family.

Wow, what insight into how the sausage is made: - trademark (hopefully) disputes with unauthorized merch sellers, the nasty overhead cost for all creators - Michelle doing the magic of video editing, what a collection of video tricks, musical cues, and choosing the best of Paul's commentary - adding Randall to the mix, we all know the many viewers/commenters have opinions as to who they want to see and hear from, so yay for teamwork!

Paul when you mount a muffle like that (vertical) make sure you put a drain hole in the muffler, at the lowest point, so it doesn't trap water and rot out. A lot of factory mufflers have drain holes in them. It just needs to be a small hole like 1/8" or a little smaller.

Paul, a good source for a used orbital valve is a forklift, you might even get a good steering column from the same donor. Standard power steering pumps usually work. I built a tractor with a Toyota car engine and transmission years ago, and I used an orbital with the stock power steering pump, and it worked fine, even at idle. I used a John Deere steering cylinder, but you would want something a bit more industrial, perhaps.

The gentleman at my local exhaust shop keeps a bundle of heavy gauge wire in his shop. He puts one end inside the existing exhaust pipe or manifold and bends the wire in the shape of how he wants his pipe to run. He then takes the wire to the bender and bends the pipe to match the wire. It seems to work very well for him.
@ralfie88013 жыл бұрын
I’ve known some guys like that, but the best ones are the very experienced ones that eyeball it and bend it, without a wire template. There used to be a guy named Derrick in my hometown that could eyeball a set of duals on late 90’s and 2000 model trucks and have it all tacked in ready to finish weld in less than an hour, and both sides matched in a mirror image.

Great stuff Paul! Setting up rear suspension is always challenging and you made it look straight forward. As a cool idea for when you build your next crawler or upgrade this one, build up some trailing arms the way Ultra4 (4400/4800) links are built. And, since it's a crawler and not a racer, you can mount the shocks quite a bit forward of the rear heims. That'll give you considerably more flex and wheel travel plus trailing arms can take much more of a beating than DOM alone can take.
@totensiebush3 жыл бұрын
I'd be concerned about the frame with how much material you took out of the top and bottom. If it was mine, I'd want to add an inboard box section frame spanning the notch. Without it, it looks like your frame at the mounts is basically a plate on each side, easy to bend, rather than a box like you want.

@@bushratbeachbum alright, he's what we call a mimic or a doppelganger. Slide in talkin like you, mimics behaviors and interests... next thing you know shlt is all stirred up, life's a mess and Randall is at the heart of it.

I think they get on because they have similar interests and outlooks. I don't think he's trying to topple the empire.

Awesome Paul! One of these years while driving down to Powell I’d love to swing by and peak at the FJ. You and the family are wonderful people. All the best and keep up the amazing work. Thoughts and Prayers for your loss.

Man, that is some precision decisions! Good to see Papa Dar has another job besides working for Michelle. I mean how far can he go with Male Pattern Baldness modeling? Love that truck he was driving and Papa Dar! Great stuff Paul and Michelle.

Add some rings on your smoke pipe , helps keep more heat in the shop , plus burned less wood . . but add a small blower to move heat off pipeline , add a y or whatever your shop can handle , like school shop has ..

Hope you don't get much heat transfer from the exhaust pipe being too close to the oil and trans pans.

Just a tip use a stick of brake line as a template for the exhaust bends, lay on top of down pipe will make sure u have enough clearance and the to the bottom will show how far it hangs down

This one brought back memories of when we had our muffler shop for 20 plus years. Gotta love having a good bender! We went through a few. Nice job as usual Paul!

The FJ is looking great and our prayers are still with your family

Try making a pattern for the pipe with a piece of metal brake line or fencing wire. Use the wire pattern when bending on the machine. You'll get the pipe right the first time. Been doing custom exhaust for over 20 years. The more time you spend on your pattern, the more perfect the pipe will fit.

With the randomish combo of headers and downpipes that thing is gonna sound rad 😍
